what have others found to be a good belt lube other than the very expensive small cans available at local hardware stores?
If you need a lube on the belt, you need a new belt. There are all kinds of products out there made to satisfy what someone thinks they need. Some of the old remedies such as soap actually speed up the demise of the belt. Proper tension and line-up keeps all surfaces in contact and they run cooler. If the belt runs hot, its slipping and life will be short. Belts and sheaves on manufactured products are an engineered solution.
