belly mower to 3pt mower

I did a search and couldn't find anything but has anyone converted there mid or belly mower to a 3pt mower ? I found a nice belly mower that i'd like to convert to a 3pt. It looks pretty easy to do but it would be nice to see one already done and hear about any problems.

Belly mowers run around 2000 + rpm to the gear box and your 3pt is 540 or 1000 rpm. Just keep that in your mind, should be easy to do other then that.

The mid PTO runs at 2000-2500 RPMS, so you will need a 1-4 or 1-5 step up gearbox to run it off of a 540RPM rear PTO and get the right blade speed out of that deck.
If you have a 1000RPM rear PTO, you would need a 1-2 step up gearbox to get the right blade speed out of that deck.

If you are dead set on that mower, I would look at putting it on the front. You well like that much better, IF it can be done.

I am sure you could find a used RFM at the same price or better than it would cost you to buy that and convert it. While it could be done, it does not seem practical to do.

+1 By the time you pay for this mower and adapt it, you likely could have purchased a brand new, quality RFM. Ken Sweet or Everything Attachments, regulars here on TBN, will sell you an awesome, quality, Italian made RFM for around a grand.
There's always the lesser quality, China made units for $600. Or, shop for a quality used unit for the same $600. They are out there.

Need to think this through.

Yeah it does look like it will be cheaper to just get a rfm. I do like building stuff and making things work but not when it cost more.

Not necessarily germane to this particular query but I am also interested if
there is a regular source for used or surplus gearboxes similar to those used on mower decks ?
