Hello & WELCOME to TBN!

I moved your thread to the Hydraulics Forum. :)

I have a friend that had this problem with a tandem dump truck they cut down and mad a trailer for their articulated tractor. It was doing the same thing you describe. What was happening his tractors Resevoir was filled to capacity but the first stages on the telecopic cylinders when it would raise it lesft enough fluid in the pump not to squeal or suck air but nothing to pull in to push out. We could ad another tank or smalelr cylinders we put on the smaller cylinders. Another thing Ive seen on other dump trailers is the relif valves were giving troubles.

The tank/reservoir should be large enough to keep the suction inlet under fluid, and the tank still be large enough to hold all the fluid when all cyl's are fully collapsed.

From what you say, the cyl appear to be connected in series, whereby the second cyl only moves when the first cyl is full. In retract mode, the second cyl will empty first, and then the first.

Does the first cyl make the valve go into relief, and even if it did, the relief pressure would be at the input to the second cyl.

You just might be running out of fluid for the cyl, due to low tank volume.

Have you used a hyd pressure gage in the lines to see if and where you have pressure?

If the pump is running, and there is fluid at the suction side of the pump, the available fluid is going somewhere.

I would say Taylortractornut is right on that. Also easy to check.

thanks, this is the same problem am facing coz if the cylinder goes halfway up,the fluid in the drops its level to below minimum.any possible rectifications too this?where is the relief valve located?

thanks

Does the dump trailer have it's own pump, or use tractor hyd?

The relief valve should be close to the valve lever and spools.

the trailer uses fluid from the tractor.

pnyamandi,

Then I suspect you will need to add some more fluid somewhere.

Has the trailer worked with this tractor before.

Another tank in parallel, with enough capacity to still have fluid above the suction port with all cyl extended, and not run over with all cyl collapsed. .
