Well, that time of the year again to get a side of beef.

I knew it was coming based on the price of feeder cows last spring but prices are up.

I've been getting beef from a friend. Has great stuff. Out the door, cut, wrapped and frozen I'm paying $1.85/pound from hanging weight. $1.55/pound for the beef, $.30/pound for the butcher.
I can get a bit cheaper but not sure about the quality.

What's everyone else paying for beef?

Eat very little beef, usually eat venison. But considering the price of steaks at the grocery store the price is not that bad.

Back in my college days I used to work at a grocery store and that led to me helping out in the meat department. From the experienced meat cutter working there, I learned that buying a quarter or half of beef you were buying the variety of meat in the freezer and not the savings.

I'm selling mine right now for $1.15 on the hoof. Figure 30% waste and you're pretty close to what we sell for.
