I want to replace the bearings in my John Deere STX 38, has anyone done this, I was told by John Deere, that you have to beat out the bearings, that just doesn't sound right. Has anyone done this. And if you have to beat them out. What is the best way. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, the bearings for the blades, on the mowing deck.

Most of the deck bearings do have to be removed with a hammer and large punch unless they come out with the spindle shaft which means the housing is worn.
Usually just a 2 1/2 pound hammer will do the job and a 12 pound sledge would be too much.

I'm pretty sure you can replace the bearings on the "yellow" decks. On the "black" decks you have to replace the whole spindle assembly.

the black deck is replaced as a unit, the yellow deck can have the bearings replaced. The center spindle shaft presses ( or hammers)
out the bottom, then remove snap ring, use a punch to remove bottom bearing, remove other snap ring, then you can get the spacer and the other bearing out.

Deere part # JD9296 for the bearing, both are the same
