Bear

The most dangerous thing I have to contend with is a kangaroo (well maybe the occasional snake). Roo's will only fight if cornered. You can Keep your bears!!

Thats pretty much true with black bears. They run away when they can.

Wayne,

We have the same problem, but with wild hogs, not bears. I think that if we had bears, my wife would make us move to another state!!!

Here's a pcture of a hog that I shot 25 feet from my front door. It had developed a taste for our bird seed and started showing up on a regular basis.

Eddie that is one heck of a hog!

I guess if we had those up here my wife would request to move to another state. By the way I think the last reported human killing by a black bear in the state of NH was back in 1784.

That doesn't mean someone should run up to a bear in the wild and think it won't protect itself, but if you keep your distance one should be okay. Also verify your escape path.

Our main pest, are black bears, deer, woodchucks and one or two moose now and then.

I can accept all of them excluding the darn woodchucks!

If you want to be reminded about the dangers posed by bears, read this:

List of fatal bear attacks in North America by decade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Most notable to me what the difference in the manner of attack between brown and black bears. There are exceptions, but typically the brown bear attacks when challenged, surprised, or defending cubs or territory. The black bear typically runs away, but is more likely (still rarely) to stalk, hunt, and eat humans.

Train the bears to eat woodchucks. Problem solved!;) :D

Problem is people taste like chicken but the usual bear does not know that. So it is a taste test the first time and sought after the rest of the time. Proves bears do not have an adequate communication system like TBN! Or else they would all know.
