Wayne,

Tell you what, you pack your bear up and bring him down my way and you can take the 5 we have over here. Deal?? 5 for 1. Cheap at half the price... :D

I'm in the same boat as you with the critters, I boarder the conservation land on 3 sides so I have all kinds of visitors including the worst kind....human, they don't run away when you shout and wave.

Tom

PS, I have the same hummingbird feeder, the bees love it. Got it at Larry's hardware store didn't ya? lol

Hey Tom, normally the bears don't bother me too much, just can't figure out something that big going after a pound of bird seeds? As for the hummingbird feeder, not sure where it came from? We have had it for about ten years now and it seems to continue working.

Not too many humans come out this way, but when they do we are friendly and give them directions back to the main road, not sure if they make it or not?

Try putting some 4" PVC sections on the end of your cable - these will spin freely on the cable. Make sure the feeders don't hang too low either

I used this concept on similar setup I had to hang my feeder. Bears did not tear it down this year

We had a bird feeder hung on a cable to get it away from the squirrels. Worked real well until the day we found out it made for a great lighting rod also. Our dog still freaks out 10 years later when there is a storm.

You need to get rid of all your bird feeders for several weeks.

We had a bear that came to our house. Our german shepherd chased it a lot, the dog doesn't know any better, it will learn one day.

A fed bear is a dead bear.

I also had a big bear problem. One way to keep them out of your bird feeders is to pour straight ammonia (sp?) into a ballon and cover the balloon with peanut butter and hung it up on your bird feeder line. When he breaks it open it will spill on him and he will be gone for good... ( unless he is just plain dumb)

No permanent damage to the bear. The MD. DNR suggested it to me and it works pretty well.

(scesnick) Well, known my luck it would break when I am putting it up and I will be gone forever!

(jinjimbob) You are maybe right about getting rid of the bird feeders, but it is nice having them around. So if I got rid of the feeders guess I would also have to get rid of the bird houses too?

(MarkV) You know we just had about 9 people hit by lightning when they got under a big tree during a lightning storm! Never thought about lightning traveling down the tree and into the cable.

(1bush2hog) Interesting idea, I might just try that with the PVC pipe. I have taken the cable up a knotch or two and it is high enough now I think the bear will have to climb up the tree and then slide down the cable to get to the feeders.

(Royjackson) Roy sorry about calling you Johnson, guess the saying is true "I guess it is true,

"I doesn't have to call you Johnson!"

Good Evenin Wayne,
