I am asking about BCS(?) tillers (made in Italy). My work colleague has one that is about eight years old that he wants to sell. It has the 30" rear tine tiller hooked to it but no other attachments. What do folks know about these, and would one that is that age but has about twenty hours use be worth $1100, or not that much?

They are excellent tillers. Find out what model it is first. My first guess is that it is either a larger 700 series or maybe even an 830 or 850. You usually find the 30" tillers on these larger units. 8 years is nothing on one of these. New model 700 are high 2k and 800 series are in the 3-4 k range depending on options. Many attachments are also available for them although most people that buy them just use them as tillers. They have a higher tine speed than most tillers and do an excellent job of mixing the soil.

I have a BCS model 735 that I bought new in 1987 and is the same as the new model 852. They are on the high end when you buy them, but I don't think you'll find a better tiller. Here's a site to check them out, a lot of features and Joel at Earth Tools is an expert on this line of machines.

Don't let that one get away from you! It's a steal at that price!

I have been working since I made this post, so I have not had a chance to look at it. I am so unfamiliar with them I do not know what engine it has, or how it compares to the new ones. I am planning a peek at it Monday or Tuesday of this coming week. He says it has recently run a little rough as it does not have enough hours on it to break it in. My other question is: do the new attachments shown on the website retrofit to the older machines? The little front blade and such would be nice additions.
