I have had a problem with the battery on my mower for years and I am wondering if someone can enlighten me.
It is a Simplicity mower and the terminals always get loaded up with acid. I have changed the battery yet I still have the same problem. I even put a knife switch on the negative terminal. My thought was if the circuit was open while not in use the build up would stop. Didn't work. Twice a year I must remove the terminals and scrub them clean. They get a real hard black crust that has to be scraped off. I have used the sprays and grease nothing works.
I don't get it?

If this has all happened with the same battery, it will probably quit when you have to get a new one.
Pour baking soda water mixture to neutralize the acid on the cables and post. You seem to have a leak of acid or gas.

I had the same problem the most of my life with batteries until the advent of the gel cell battery and that seemed to alleviate the problem for the most part.

It has happened with several batteries. This one does have a leak around the post. It wiggles and now I am wondering if that is the problem with this one.

That is a good idea. I think I am gonna get a gel battery next.

I had that problem on a Caravan we owned. After cleaning with baking soda, I installed those litttle green and red felt gizmos you can get at any auto store. They did the trick!
