battery opinions

Wish that was true of my 2005 PT-422. Unfortunately, the arrangement PT chose for that version only has room for a garden tractor sized battery underneath the exhaust manifold. That being said, I have not had any starting problems after I replaced my battery last year, even with the smaller size that my PT-422 allows.

Is your battery size U1? During my search I thought about you guys with the older 422s I think that I saw U1s and ATV/motorcycle batteries with about 350 CCAs... One other solution that I thought about was a battery bracket on the back of the tub. I recently welded a bracket on the rear of mine to hold 40lbs John Deere weights. A bigger battery would also fit there and add weight to the tractor. That being said, if its working okay, don't fix it.

Yes, U1. I have a Diehard Gold in there now, rated at 340CCA, and my PT422 starts much faster then previously. Had no problems last winter, of course, it wasn't nearly as cold or snowy as previous years, so might be apples to oranges.

I would worry about a battery hanging off the rear, since I bet I would end up backing it into something.

So I mowed about 3 acres of pasture since I have no livestock, and it was about 30" tall. My new brush-hog blades no longer look new, after encountering rocks, iron pipe, and lots of dirt. It is amazing to see a softball size rock cut in half and hurled about 60'. Don't want anybody nearby when doing that sort of thing. Now I have hay all-over m my fields, and need to get a york rake...

I think I need some goats...
