What are you guys doing for a battery hold down? I have a Farm Pro 25 hp 4x4 that I put a Walmart battery in. There is just to much space around it to bounce around. I put a bungee on it for now, but has anyone done something a little more permanent. Photos would be nice.

A group 31 batter fills the well nicely, there should be rubber strips to help isolate vibration. the hood catch bracket comes close to the top of the battery, of course you can fab a metal strap if you are using a smaller battery, and you can add wood blocks to the sides to keep it from sliding back and forth.

I made some pads for my battery from Ethafoam. It is a rigid dense closed cell foam often used as packing blocks in electronics equipment and machinery boxes. It is good at isolating vibrations, which can shorten battery life. It is also commonly used for archery targets so a 2' X 2' X 2" thick piece can suallly be found in the sporting goods department at Wallmart or sporting goods stores. Being closed cell, it will not absorb moisture. I cut a 1" thick piece to fit the bottom of the battery box for the battery to set on, then I cut side panels for all sides to hold the battery in the middle of the compartment.

It has about the consistency of soft Balsa wood and cuts easilly with a tablesaw/chopsaw/handsaw. Using a hand saw, you can easilly cut 2" thick panels down to whatever thickness needed to fill the gaps around the battery. I don't use anything as a hold down. Setting on the foam pad brought the battery up near the hood latch bracket and with the padding around the sides, it it is held in place quite nicely. The hood latch bracket also prevents the battery from being removed from the compartment. If I can bounce hard enough to dislodge the battery on a tractor(or even get it to hit the bracket) without suspension, I will probably have larger problems to deal with than battery damage:)

Hey Bluechip:

I have a 2425 three cylinder Farm Pro. My stock battery is toast. Sealed battery vs. regular? Think a sealed battery would solve the clearance problem? What about recommended cold cranking amps and such?

Merry Christmas!

We use INterstate 31-VHD with screw on terminals for easy conversion. it is 660cca and 820 cranking amps, and is a sealed battery, reasonably priced and the vhd implies some vibration protection for diesel applicaion.
