I have a couple of those on small equipment... they work....

Have one, but don't think it would handle the explorer that goes dead after 4 days. --- Looks like small equipment use only but still a good idea.

We use these for vehicles... & they work great...

I have a couple on stuff that I don't use very often. But they are a screw type that mounts directly to the battery terminal. You can get them cheap off of ebay. I found that they come in two styles, cheap Chinese and US made. Get the US made ones.

alternatively an Anderson connector is a good way of isolating, they are also a good design as they wipe on disconnect/reconnect which keeps the contact relatively clean.
