One dissatisfaction that does not go away with ownership is charging access. And is the #1 reason 20% of EV owners go back to ICEv.
How will the government, that decides to discontinue ICE vehicles like California, fix the problem? If 20% of EV owners are having charging problems just think of the ones that figure out the problem before they buy. I would put the charging problem at 50% of the population if not more. It seems like 240v access at home for every EV owner is required before satisfaction to convert. Sounds about right, I would have the 240v plug installed before I took delivery of an ICE vehicle.

"The lack of reliable Level 2 charging at home (that's a 240-volt plug) was a major factor leading to EV "discontinuance," as the researchers called it. That makes sense. If you don't have a place to charge reliably, it makes it a lot harder to enjoy the benefits associated with an EV, including an overall lower cost of ownership". https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/ev-owners-switch-gas-power-study/
I expect that EV ownership will only be practical for the 60% of the population that owns their own home.

Don't freak out about Newsom's "no ICE" BS. There is no law requiring it. Elected officials are not dictators.

Too bad they didn't have a thread like this to realize EV ownership is far from what many people need today.

The majority of the people in the United States of America will not have access to ev's for years to come so the charging structure is a non-issue today but will resolve by the time it is needed.

Agree somewhat, but what about CA outlawing the sale of ICEVs after 2030? That’s a big step towards outlawing at least the sales of them????

35% of people rent. Before landlords will install 240v charging stations for every one of its units there will have to be a law imposed on them and either the rent will go up or the government, through our taxes will pay for it. The feel good answer: "the problem will be resolved by the time it is needed" does not really work because answers lie in the least resistive cost/actions, which would be not to buy an EV.

"Home EV charging stations cost $350 to $900 alone, and labor costs $400 to $1,700 to install."

And a lot of rentals are apartments
Apartments have occupants that drive, just like single family homes.
Sounds like installing charging stations is a great business opportunity

The California government isn't known for having a lick of common sense

Yep. Level 2 charging is simply a 220v outlet (likely a certain style but still just an outlet). Would indeed make a good business for anyone who can run 220 wires in a house.

There are plenty of forums online that people could learn from, similar to how prospective tractor owners appear on TBN.

I read ChevyBolt.org for months, seriously considering one. But I learned a Bolt wasn't practical for me. Not range, but insufficient cargo capacity to replace my Outback or Focus Wagon for the near weekly 100 mile trips between home and ranch.

Hopefully others research a new technology to see if its a good fit, before jumping in. Being wrong would be an expensive mistake.
