When we have adequate power grid and there isn’t a major backlog then you can start talking about mandating EVs. Doing it now will simply cater to the elite while destroying the economy.
Wednesday I was charging the battery to my skil saw when the power went out. I went out and ran it dead, took the battery from my drill and ran that dead, then picked up my two stroke gas powered chainsaw and finished up.
Until electric has that capability it will never be as useful.

And what is preventing you from having your own electrical sources for power?

If you ran out of gas, you would need to go find more. Same analogy as running your batteries dead.

The difference is that petroleum is a stand-alone product; it’s easier to keep your tank topped off and a couple of extra cans on hand.
I could have plugged it into the invertor on my pickup or started my generator to charge the battery in a few hours, or dragged it out into the field and run my corded saw. Yet I still needed that ICE to do either of those.

Wind and solar power generation is quite geographically limited based on today's technologies available.

The capability exists now. Tesla "powerwalls" and similar products store electric energy for just such cases. Yes it is expensive, but the technology and capability exist and you can have it today. As I mentioned before, we are seeing all this electric evolution in its infancy. It is not ideal, as many point out. But it will - and is - getting better daily :)

I understand what you are saying and agree to a point... however it isn’t here now. And there still needs to be fuel to generate the electricity.

This why I appreciate the people like Grumycat that paid out some serious money nearly a decade ago that enabled Tesla to become the top player in the industry currently. Tesla's Powerwalls have spawn a huge industry in the energy field.

At the same time I understood the people with emotional and financial needs that dictate they wait for the technology to evolve further.

A new $30K Tesla and even off grid solar system that could fully recharge it overnight should have me looking good for the next 20 to 30 plus years with the up front cost being the main cost.
