I do wish the EVs would separate all the high tech, from the fundamental uses of the vehicle, by bringing the prices down, and making the systems less propriety. Vehicle Battery Packs need to be standardized. Just like AAA, AA, C and D batteries. Pop one out, and put a new charged one in. This would solve a great many of the issues with EVs and the range issue. There is no movement to do this. If anything the batteries are becoming more specific to one application. And try to be specific to one charging method. And this is were I think the EVs will become a dog's breakfast as every interface and spec. is different as everyone wants THEIR spec to be the winner and dominat system. The winner is going to be the one that allows me to pull that old EV battery out and plug it into a home power system, augmented by solar, or what ever Local Alternative power source I have at hand. DC charging is very well understood. Modern houses need with AC conversion for all the devices they need. Its the Edison/Tesla problem, re-visited 130 years later.

Way too late for that....... Apple car is now getting some coverage.

Can't say I've tried looking up the specs, but wanna bet the battery is soldered in/non-replaceable ?

I agree with your first point, but not the second.
The manufacturer has no control over product (or its packaging) once it's been sold. We have enough trouble getting people to separate trash from recyclables as it is, putting the responsibility on the manufacturer for customers' laziness/apathy is just needless government meddling. This takes the absurd number of warning labels we already have on any product that can possible hurt someone to a whole new level.

While I've noted a different recycling landscape between Can (higher level) and USA, some of Western Europe is next-level again.

While Ag and other folk across the pond may well correct me, my impression (which I didn't really convey well) is that consumers there are looking for more responsible performance from manufacturers AND will roll up their shirt-sleeves and drop off their consumer packaging at the relevant manufacturer facility.

I see it more as the manufacturers being expected to meet the standards that citizens want, not as abdication of responsibility.

But yes, if most of the population doesn't care/does nothing, results suck.

Back in the mid 70's you could buy battery operated screwdrivers and grass clippers. They were not worth the money. Today the batteries are better, and charging times have improved so that the tools are now very useful. It took the market 40 years to do this.

Now the government is trying to force the world into EV that are not ready yet. Forcing the price of gas and oil to go up and saying all this BS about doing away with gas cars/trucks and all in less then 10 years. At the same time demanding the coal industry be shut down. It can not happen that fast. The cost of the batteries will be out of reach for most people thus the economy will come to a standstill. The price of electricity will become a major part of your paycheck. Then who will pay for all the Green New Deal? Taxes go up, energy cost go up and your freedoms will go away. Far away.

What becomes of all the farm land that is covered by solar cells? No food because we need to cover the fields. Fewer trees as the land is cleared to make more room for the solar farms.

We will have no jobs, nor need for cars as there will become less food. We can sit in our unheated hutches and freeze as the energy needs will not be met.

I believe that it's been mentioned here before, but the place for solar collectors is on roof tops and over parking lots. A farm is someplace which raises food, livestock and/or feed, or perhaps plant fibers.

There are huge solar farms going on in North Eastern Oregon to power server facilities. Even though the hydro-electric here could do it, after all the aluminum factories went over seas and dropped out of the system. It always just depends on who you believe in. We now sell all this excess capacity power all the way down to California. And I don't get the savings. Its messed up in a way, causes we made the trade off of our fisheries to have this happen.

Trash handling here in Norway starts at home, I have four thrash containers, ordinary thrash, organic, paper and one for glass/metall.

We pay a fee when we buy tires, oil, batteries and all kinds of electrical and electronic devices witch makes recycling easy, everybody that sells these products are mandated take old in return, general stores have recycling points for small batteries, lightbulbs and small electronic waste.
This is by law but it is not done by the government.

On new cars I pay ca 300$ in a wrecking fee, this is the same sum that I will get payed to recycle an old car so you don't see much old wrecks, the same solutions are newly been put boats, campers and trailers.

We have a lot of recycling centers where one can deliver thrash.

But it's not enough, it's to cheap to let consumers take the bill for bad products and packaging choices.

And of course export of thrash is forbidden.

And throwing thrash in nature is a crime, and is very social unaccepted, and many that does this is not smart so often it's possible to identify the source so they know where to send the very high bill .

Most Norwegians are very connected to nature so people will often clean up thrash if found in nature.
