Battery Backup for Sump Pump

@NibbanaFarm ...

Do you have city water? If so, I recommend a water driven backup pump. No batteries to maintain, and it always works.

Basepump makes good ones.

Maybe restrict the inlet or outlet piping so pump runs longer and cycles less?

There’s better ways to accomplish the same thing. If you were going to permanently cripple your output you might as well use a smaller pump to reduce the battery load. You could make the sump pit bigger so it does more work per cycle or you could install a second smaller output pump with the float set lower. That way the larger pump only started when the smaller one is overwhelmed. A sump pump cycling isn’t that big of a deal anyway. They’re not starting under much load and the starting current isn’t that much.

I have a generator that runs the whole house but is a bit of effort to start up and more effort to put back into storage. A lot of times the only absolutely necessary item is the sump pump. (And we can't leave for travel if any weather events are expected.)
Can't recommend solar as a solution. However Ecoflow delta2 has LiFePo4 battery chemistry, 1800w inverter, 1024wh battery (about $1k)
1800w gas gen (dual fuel) about $1400, runs on gas or propane. The solar gen can start/stop gas gen to recharge battery. Downside special charge cable is 16' long. Gas gen can make 120v AC, uses DC on charge cable for faster charging. Phone app lets you check up on equipment operation.

Larger Delta Pro could run fridge, fans on heating stove and sump pump -- solar gens also recharge from power grid.

I don't have city water or sewer.

When I first installed the sump pump it cycled a lot. I got a lower power pump and dug the sump about six inches deeper and that solved the cycling problem. Now, depending on how much water is in the ground, it can run for 5 or 10 minutes straight. It's only a problem after heavy rain or snow melt. The sump is dry for months during the summer and can go for long periods without ever cycling.
