just looking
Hello all,

I’m having an issue with the drain in my basement. Recently, I've noticed water pooling around it, especially after heavy rain.

I’m guessing it’s either clogged or there’s a backup in the line. I’ve tried snaking it, but it doesn’t seem to fully clear the blockage.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Should I look into a professional drain inspection, or are there effective DIY methods I could try first?

Any tips on preventing this from happening in the future would be much appreciated!

How far did you snake it? Far enough to get to the street? How high is your local water table?

I have run a pressure washer drain cleaning snake down a couple of drains, and it worked really well at clear blockages of dirty/gravel/leaves/twigs. However, there may be water coming up the drain initially, and it is not as good as a snake for cutting tree roots.

Professionals will be able to run a camera down to see what the issue is, and importantly, where it is. I lived in one place that had both tree roots in the line and a partially broken and collapsed line. The slope on the drain was also close to zero, so there would always be standing water in the line.

All the best,

Peter

Do you have municipal sewer or septic system and is that drain tied into the sewer or a separate drainage system?

If you have municipal sewer, hire a plumber to inspect with camera as suggested.

If you have a septic system that it's tied into, check your septic tank first, I'd think.

Good luck.

You might want to look at drainage around your house. Determine whether the water is coming from the drain pipe or seeping up around the floor penetration for the drain pipe.

If rainwater was getting into your drain pipe and backing up, why isn't water backing up during normal daily use?

Everyone has been asking where the drain pipe goes but so far u haven’t answered , maybe u don’t know ?
What is the drain pipe made of ?
How old is the house ?
The drain pipe was 86 years old and made of clay in my house, had to dig it up and replaced it with PVC
