I put up a bat house last Sunday. I was getting ready to report disappointment that it had not yet been discovered. However, I just went out and looked and saw a bat inside the bat house!

Don't know if it is the one pooping in the barn, but I hope it is so I can quit cleaning up after it.

Hope lots if friends get invited too.

Now that this mystery is solved, perhaps you can figure out what's causing the holes in the floor of Check's barn. When you solve that, we'll move onto serious questions; Pallets!

Do you have a picture you can post?

So - - around 1am I have this dream. Somebody is washing my face. It's my puppy - Brownie - he's licking to let me know it's "outside" time.

I open the door and - immediately - a bat flies into the house. No need to get excited. The bat does not want to be "in" any more than I want him in. So we sit - wait - watch. It took the bat about ten minuets and a couple dozen times around the living room. He finally found the open door and made his exit.

I may have been lucky. While we waited several bats flew past the open door. Busy night for the bats and all flying bugs.

jaydee325 - It won't take long. If you built what they like and located it well - there will be a "house full" before cold wx sets in. If they are anything like my little bats - they come back to the same cubby hole each year. It's been nine years now - I always have a couple dozen or more returning each year.

I purchased the bat house (not big on carpentry projects) but it is to Batcon (batcon.org) specs. I also installed per Batcon recommendations.

That looks like a good location. Up nice and high. The "unusual" construction discourages unwanted intruders. Pretty hard for a cat to hang on to the pole with three feet and dig into that bat house with the fourth paw. Just be certain that there is a place where they can get water. Small saucer sled or the like - kept full of water. Flush out every couple days to prevent mosquito hatchings.

Besides - a bevy of bats busting out of that house would knock any cat off the pole.

There is a freshwater creek about a half mile down the beach. Do I need to keep water on hand for them ?? :hissyfit: :hissyfit:
