Has anyone here had any experience with a company called Bark Busters?
We are have a little trouble with one of our dogs (a stray we got from the shelter) and are looking for a trainer to help us out. This looks like a international franchize, so I was hoping someone in this forum might have worked with them.

Thanks.

I manage the commercial vendors who rent space at the Reliant World Series of Dog Shows in Houston in July. We are physically the largest show in the nation. We rent a building of 700,000 sq. ft. for the show.

The holder of the license for Houston took space at our show this year. I did not have time to visit with them but they indicated that they were expecting to set up several outlets in the Houston area. There seemed to be a fair amount of interest in their offering.

What information are you looking for? I may be able to help.

Mike,

I used Bark Busters a couple of years ago. I think one's success will depend upon the franchise holder (trainer) and the dog owner. Essentially, they train the dog owners to learn how to control the pet by teaching you how to behave as the "alpha" dog. Once you establish yourself as alpha, the dog is supposed to follow your lead.

We had limited success. But, in fairness to Bark Busters, I think we did not put enough time into the training process. And, it does take time. I would imagine that if you follow the program as designed, are diligent with the training and don't get lazy with the discipline over time, you will likely have good results.

Bark Busters is very reasonably priced and they will come back to your house for follow-up as long as you need them (or at least they used to say that).

We ultimately gave up our "problem" dog to a rescue group who found an older adoptive couple who had no young kids or other dogs (our problem areas) and where the wife was home all day with her. Once in this environment, Lucy did very well and at last report had become a loving member of her new family.

Please let me know if you need any more specifics.

Vernon,
I'm mostly interested in how successfuly they are, and how happy the people who have used them have been with their approach.
Thanks

Thanks bmac.
That's what I'm interested in.
We have an adopted dog that is giving us some trouble.
One "trainer" said his actions are the result of "separation anxiety", and another says it's a "dominance issue". We just need to know if his behaviour can be modified, and if so, how.
I'll let you know how it turns out, as my wife has already set up an appointment.

I will ask among our Kennel Club members to see if I can get some first hand info.

Just a quick update if anyone is interested.
It's been a week since we had Bark Busters out, and the improvement in the behaviour of our "problem dog" is noticable. I know we have a long ways to go, but at this time, it appears the method works.
