Tired of continually sharpening and re-setting old blades and am looking to restock with some new ones...
What's the best deal going for decent band mill blades?...what type and style for milling both hard and soft wood logs...?

FWIW...need 167" X 1.25" X .042"...

I think that's what I bought the last time...silver tips maybe?

What is the difference between a typical 7* hook angle and what they are calling "Vortex"...any idea??

I'm also looking at a source for a carbide tipped blade...

Vortex is a wood miser brand as far as I know; it is a specialized blade for sawdust removal.

Timberwolf speaks to sawdust removal in their guide and mentions around 80% sawdust removal as being ideal to allow cooling of the blade during the cut.

I’m not an expert by any means but in general terms my understanding is the softer the wood, the higher the rake or hook angle.

Blades have been hard to come by. With high lumber prices, demand for mill shot up, and with it demand for blades. I had to wait 4-5 weeks for some blades back in April. I bought Ripper 37 blades from Jerry's Resharp after hearing many good recommendations. Have not sawn with them yet though, so no personal experience.. I still have 5 new Lennox blades from my old stash of 10. The Lennox blades have performed very well for me. I'll send them out for resharpening once I get into the Rippers.
