Ballast Box Sizes

Well the weather finally looks like it going to turn for the better. Time to get outdoors and move something besides snow. I want to build a ballast box for my JD4310 using some of the steel from an old fuel oil tank. The tanks width of 27" works for the spacing between the lift arms, but what are the other dimensions on your ballast boxes for height and thickness. A newby's inquiring mind would like to know. Thanks for all the prior information and keep up the great ideas.

Went out this morning and got the dimensions. Someone turned the heat off again. 20 degrees. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Height = 22 3/8"
Width = 24 3/8" This is the 27" width of your tank.
Depth = 16"
Lower link pin height from bottom = 11 1/8"
Top Link pin C/L height = 24 3/8"
Pin C/L back from tractor side = 1 3/4"
Pins are mounted to a 3/8" plate welded to side of box.

Ron, Thanks for the detailed info. I'l keep your offer in mind.
Spent the better part of the day burning brush and clearing a fence row. Day started off with the ground nice and firm and by the afternoon I was standing in 2" of mud.

Tried to pull some 6" pine stumps out of the ground, latching on to them with my backblade. Soil is mostly sand. Engaged 4 wheel drive and diff lock and all four R4's dug themselves a hole. But we were having fun. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When you mention sand. My thought are that you are a west sider like me. I live near Wixom. Are you on this side of town?
