Hawkeye on your way did you stop in Date Land. If not do next time. If you like dates at all, these are the best. They also used to make a really good burger.

Now a little humor, before I get on with my complaining, :D

In the old west they use to put out wanted posters. Maybe you should put out UN-Wanted posters.
Something like Smiths from CA are UN-wanted In Ark.
Don't think Marvels Marvin is ever going to come back here. Before he went into a rant calling me everything but a white man, said he would be here 4 May. I believe that has come & went.

Before you folks get the Idea that I still drive 90/95 mph. I have slowed down & normally drive a little above or below the speed limit. OK:)

Left Tucson early 1 AM several years ago. About 40 miles west stopped at a truck stop & sucked up a couple of iced tee's. Got on the dresser & rolled it up to around 95. 60 Miles to Gila Bend. Longest 60 miles in my life. Pulled into a little Indian gas station & store. Got off the bike & went in circles. Went inside, they had a water dispenser, Soaked some paper towels, put on my head & back of neck. When cooled down, filled up with gas & went right across the street to the Space Age Motel. Not sure how long it has been there, but was pretty old in the 1950's. Got a room & slept until around 2AM. Left in a Tee Shirt & back to 95. Gas in Yuma & 95 up the mountain. My only though was god, get me out of this damm desert. More to that story if you ask. Me & dumb ideas go hand in hand.

Was 115 yesterday. Hottest I can ever remember here, was 117. This year it may go way past that. Its 11 AM & 107 now.

So you folks like the steps, not a peep about my fine building & rock laying work. God is gona get ya for that.
Had some better & more complete pictures but the computer hid them.

The deck & stairs were built without drawn plans of any kind. Picture in my mind & some measurements. Only help was the tractor, for lifting & putting things in place.
Rock work is all local rock that I hauled in. Most things that I build are done that way.

More Later. This is getting too long to read anyway.

In the summer desert, you get up early and work till late morning, nap and drink beer till late afternoon, then work some more. The next morning you get up early again, fix what you worked on after all that beer yesterday, nap and drink beer, work late, repeat... :)

Made alot of money in my youth by working more daylight hours than the next guy, even when it was too hot to sweat... I enjoy an early morning start also, best time is right before sunrise and feel the warmth from the sun start. In college, I was in the class that went from 7am to 1pm, so my work schedule was 1pm-9pm during the week. No school on weekends so different schedule then. I worked at Sears in the auto center... when we had a sale on diehard batteries or roadhandler tires, the line would go around the block on Saturday mornings... worked hard, often in the parking lot to get the cars done (we only had 24 bays I think, so had to make due at times). The black pavement was plenty hot.

Jim Back in the days of transporting corn as a liquid and having to hide the goods to keep the sheriff from taking for his uses. There was a individual hard to live with in the community . But one night the revenuers broke up the party and this person was informed in front of all attending that he had enjoyed his last days of **** raising .
And no one saw or heard from him for over 45 years the family figured he had been killed and left in the woods coyotes would hide the evidence.

Then there was a letter from a family in Okla . He had died and there was and address to notify the Ark. family in his passing.
I was a teen ager during this time and his family here it was hard scramble to make a living or keep the farm which soon was sold.

Also during this period when some one stepped out side of good behavior attitude the Sherriff would explain the facts of life and tell him to pack his bags and head for Calif. or the military.
This is the reason when some one moves here from Calif. he is called cousin until proved different.
Now the greatest fear of living in this area is a Yankee with a U-Haul looking at real estate to purchase.
7 to 10 miles out in a country. road grader would drag the ditches before a election and power only 2 wire strung on pole no bigger than wooden fence posts 30 foot tall. These Yankees then would want all of the things they had in where ever they came from. Telephone private line (still private phone co. here today)water to the house black top roads. Then get the answer they know where it is return.

I had stopped at local plant store so wife could get some flowers in pots for her flower beds front of house.
Standing out side. the nursery owner and another woman who had a northern accent and she in shrill(typical) voice was saying her ground was so rocky that hard to grow veggies. Explained to her that when digging potatoes pick up all the right size and when cooking and they stay hard it is a rock toss into driveway to fill the holes. Wished had a camera taking her picture of realizing what I had said.

So Jim send him on and as a returning cousin he can either change his ways or be sent back.

When working near Needles Calif. the trucks would have the temperature gage all the way to over hot temp and after sitting all night they still would be over normal . shut the engine off and would keep dieseling so put in high gear step on breaks and release clutch would stop the chugging noise under hood.
one man driving a Dodge 3/4 ton pick up filled the tank with gas and drove to restaurant for noon meal. after eating paused for moment to light a cig. opened the door and fuel tank had ruptured and gas poured out the door onto his clothing and boots. the cigarette he grasped into palm so hard finger nails cut the skin. one close call from getting final check.

Jim keep the narrative of old codger getting threw the day going.

Never have met a Southern person wanting to retire and move north.

Yep, Big difference Between a wet state $ a dry 1.
In a wet 1, its hard for under age kids to get booze.
In a dry state ( at least it was several years ago ) Sit down in a coffee shop or similar & fairly soon a voice beside you will ask what you want.
You tell him & before you finish a cup of coffee, it is back, hand over $$ & it was placed in your lap.

I was stationed in Norman OK, there they had 3.2 beer bars. I was 17 at the time & wanted to drink beer. went to a type writer store & put some tolite in one & made a bunch of 5's, picked off all the excess & taped it down over my real birth year. Lots of tape. Went to a little beer bar & wanted too be served. A motherly type looked at my ID & laughed, said that was an old trick. Then says honey you go sit in the back booth. with your back to the door & I will join you in case a cop shows up.

Had a lot of fun there. Learned you don'te kiss a girl on a roll a coaster. It will hit a bump Your teeth will bang together.

AH today, my favorite thing - Go to Town.
Seriously low on Beer. 2 cans left.
Stocked up a little 3 30 packs. It is already warm. 72 When I left the house at 6:30. 2 girls went with me. wanted to leave them home, but not worth the time & effort to get them looked up in house.
Took clutch back. Another thing I really like to do. Guy there fussed & complained that it was all dirty & would have to be sold as used. H spent a long time wiping it off & finally gave me my $$ back. Took tool back & no problem handed me the &&.

Found a tree to park under at Safe way & bought things I didn't really need & forgot things I really wanted. By now its getting really WARM. Not kill ya heat, but a lot warmer than you would like. Back was on its good behavior. Well until Started too unload the truck, then it began talking to me in a very loud voice,
Got most everything into outside fridges except for a couple of cans & paper plates.
Its almost 1PM & it is 105. Better than 115.

Back still not happy. Will get on with more fun & old time BS. Also got more pictures to post.
Later,
Jim

yep... enjoying the simple things in life while sipping something to enhance the experience is not a bad thing. Not hurting anybody and you learn things not found in books.
