I think the old dog next door was picked up. Have not seen him & he was always there when I took the truck out & came back. Must have been the person in the white Chevy.

Yesterday was going pretty well except for my beer was frozen. Not a panic thing, had some in the truck, pretty cold from the weather.

Cut up some wood that should have been done months ago. Had a fair amount to split, hook up splitter to rear remotes. 1 Goes in real easy, fight with other hose for a long time. Make sure tractor has no hydro pressure several times. At last I wake up the pressure is in the splitter cylinder. Now this splitter has not been used in over a year. loosen 1 hose, nope. Loosen other hose, yep that works. Plugs in real easy now. Split a little kindling, load up little red wagon & have an almost cold beer. Enough for 1 day, back hurts & its time to lay down & let it settle down.

Little Boy is "Helping". yea right, him & Little Brat keep coming by & demanding that they get loved on. He keeps putting his nose where some day its gona get hurt. Hammering or chopping he is there, has to be shoved out of the way several times. Curious, trying to help???? Who knows.

Nice warm fire last night 11 PM to almost 5 AM.

Quiet, cold, ( but warming up a little) & a few strange goings on.
1" Ice in most rain puddles. Clinton & his children (5 & 7) were walking away from their house. About a mile away & still going away.
Almost the same place I last saw his wife before she disappeared.
Funny looking hatch back went to Ronny's place with hatch open. Heard Clinton & his kids over there. Pretty soon it left with another load of ???? (trash?)

Put up a new flag today, & fixed the flag pole & the rifle stock. ( about 35' tall of heavy water pipe.)
Found a job Little Boy does not want to be involve in. using angle grinder to cut some flat material for the stock, he left in a hurry.
Tired of replacing ropes that keep rotting off, so replaced it a steel cable.
This makes the 4th time I have put the pole up, including the first time.
It was also the hardest & most problematic. Almost nothing went right, cable tying itself in knots, cross threading the nut on the top bolt. not being able to line up the top holes & get the bolt in, had problems getting the chain off the pole after it was up. On & on. must have got on & off the tractor 30 or 40 times.
Had to take a 2 beer break after over an hour of fighting with the pole. Success at last & Old Glory is flying again. :drink:
The flag only has 50 stars on it. Maybe next time will get an Obama flag with 57 Stars. :D

Every month its something that costs extra $$. New tires, cooler motor, truck AC compressor, micro wave died, 3 Propane heaters, ( 1 died & I sent it back, then ordered another 1) Don't know if the people well give back $$ or send a replacement heater. Lots of propane, exchanging tanks, parts to convert tanks & so on. Will it never end, will i ever get a head a little???

Let Little Boy be a house dog for a while today. He was actually calm, sniffed & checked things out in a gentle manner. After a while I laid down, he looked at me & I patted the bed & told him to come on up. He only stepped on me twice getting on the bed. (now that is Fun) he then laid his head in my lap & stayed there until I got up. About 2+ hours & he even went outside when told. Maybe he was tired from helping me with the flag pole.

Jim Good to see you getting busy again. Next time on the flag pole project. bury a secure pole about 10' tall out of the surface and hinge the 2nd pole to it so when pulling down with rope the pole will rise . when the rising pole gets vertical have a clasp at bottom to bolt the 2 together.
I use the tractor and pulley at bottom of mast and just drive the tractor away and then lock the bottom pole to base.
Also cool here this morning. so staying in house.
Made it thru the Christmas and New Year so now just waiting for spring time .

Hi ken & all,
Meant to post pictures. Not yesterdays but from before.

flag down 2.jpg - flag down.jpg - flag up.jpg

I use the bucket to raise & lower the pole. Chain pole to bucket to keep it from sliding off. Had the chain a little to tight yesterday & that made it hard to get loose. Real bad part was lining up the hole in the flag pole with the hole in the post. No room for error. Had a large spike in post to stop pole in the right place, but is was bent over. Should I ever have to lower it again, will screw in a big lag bolt to cradle it in the right place.

Cut & split wood a few days ago, didn't bring it inside. So naturally it rained that night.

Ken what is 24" pipe used for other than water or sewage?? They have put underground 2 pipes from north of Ajo road, under the road & then turned west.
One is green & other 1 looks like the old red lead paint. They would weld up about 100' or so then take several trenchers with slings to drop the pipe in the ditch. Pipe starts sort of at no place & ends about the same way. Nothing at either end. Not sure if it even goes under the roads, they have not been disturbed. Sort of strange operation in my opinion.

Jim The 24" pipe described may be replacement to existing pipe and had been in use since original built. the green is possible Teflon coated and at weld point will be wrapped with a tape to keep from rust. The red may be another supplier and still same type of rust protection.
Also with population increasing the N. gas companies install a thicker pipe less likely to be damaged with some one using a back hoe to dig a pit. Where the ground is softer.
Just a quick guess Now there is a pair of main line pipe north of you going toward Buckeye and to the former Ajo
copper smelter. and town.

Did you ever get the Dodge truck brakes to be reliable.
or added a cyl. to the Chev. truck

Jim,
That rifle on top of the flag pole is a nice touch. What rifle is it?

Hi Lady,
That is a 100 caliber Falling Block, made by yours truly. Actually the Falling block ( Sliding Block Not to be confused with a rolling block.) receiver is real. Barrel is 1" conduit, Stock is sheet metal. They were lever action, but lever is bent metal strip, fore grip is an old metal chair leg. Magazine should not be there, falling blocks were single shot. The action is very similar to the Winchester "Low Wall" action. Center hammer.

I wanted it to look like a Lever action repeater. Some folks that have seen it from here in the yard think it is a real rifle. It's about 1/3rd larger that a real rifle.

Hi Ken,
Have not finished the brakes on the old dodge. Been thinking about it. :D
Need to pull the engine on the Chevy dump. Needs at the very least a new clutch & a valve job. May need more, whole engine?? $$$ Holding me back.

Hi Lady.
Yep that is what its for. Barrel points into the wind.

Well my (bad) luck holds. Was filling some holes by the well. Second bucket load of fill & right front tire went flat. Nothing to do but drive home on it.

Today will see if I find why it went flat. I do have a tube if all else fails.

Saw a dog down by the gate at Ronnie's place. Went to look, not the dog that lived there. young black dog with fear of people, ran away when I got close.
There was a hole in the fence, about 2 feet up, Little Boy came through it. Patched it up a little. Today will look to see if it is fresh cut wire & fix it better.

Took Brat & Bobby with me & visited my friend Larry. Dogs love to go to his house, no fence & they can go for long hunts. Lady with a van full of kids pulled in & got out. Bobby went to defend Larry's place. The lady though she was going to get eaten. I had to go get Bobby, she just was not going to let the lady get close. Never saw the Lady before, she has lived near for about 15 years & the van full of kids were all her's. Said she 10 kids, think she would have figured out what was causing the problem & done something to stop the problem.

More later,
Jim
