well, it finally was time to start the project, been thinking about it since last summer.
we have a perfect place for a large patio in the back yard, with the garage forming a
large L and a fence between the garage and house for privacy and wind protection.
found a deal on some close out color Rinox brand pavers, their Belair line, and the
dealer had just enough with a little to spare so i bought the whole lot he had
we started 2 weekends ago, did the excavation and backfilled with layers of
crusher run with compaction every 3 inches. I ended up a little deep in places,
but had extra material so it was ok. better too deep than not deep enough
it took me a long time with a line level (should have rented a transit, but,)
and I graded the patio in 2 directions, sending all runoff out one walkway
to the back yard. when it came to laying the stone dust, 3/4" EMT conduit
was just the ticket, and we compacted the stone dust then screeded it off
between the pipes. So far everything is going well, but we seem to get these
monster rainstorms every few days so i'll be happy when i get the rest of the
patio done (the walls have yet to be built) so i can tamp in the polymeric sand.
I did manage to arrange for some great equipment to use, had a customer drop
off a large JD 328 skid steer to unload the brick pallets, then I borrowed another
JD 320 to excavate with, a neighbor let me borrow their little 1.5 dump wagon,
and i used a JD 3203 tractor to pull that around during excavation and backfill.
that kept the wear and tear down on the lawn areas.
since then, i have been using my little X585 with 45 loader, and gator 4x2 to
move the stone dust. I did use the X585 with front 54 blade to level off the
lifts of crusher run before compacting.

and after day 2, ran out of brick, were 2 pallets short, which were delivered yesterday....
