Backhoe Backhoe storage

I'm getting the Kubota BH-90B next week, I've pretty much determined there is NO WAY I'm going to be able to store it inside the garage.

Any special preps for storing outdoors over the winter?

I'd just smear some grease on all the exposed cylinder rods to keep them from rusting, and throw a tarp over the whole thing.

I would put the grease on the cylinders and store it outside, but under a tent type of enclosure because if you put a tarp over it, the air will not be able to circulate around the metal and it will "sweat" under the plastic. This will be worse for it than if you leave it outside with no cover. Wax the painted surfaces before the winter......

If you store it outside on dirt put plastic on the ground under it. This will keep moisture from coming up from the ground and condensing on the plactic covering the BH. Yes cover it with plastic ( black) but allow for some ventilation. And as the other replies indicate grease all exposed cylinder rods and anything else that is bare metal.

Sorry so long getting back to you on this.. I had to run out of town without a computer.

I'm interested in why you recommend BLACK plastic. Normally I use those green or brown tarps you find at the home irmprovement stores. They last a couple of years..then degrade and I buy new ones.

Black, I would think, would heat up under the sunshine. I guess that's good in the winter.. but bad in the summer.

ps.. I haven't given up on finding some way to angle this thing in the garage. I'll find out later this week when the tractor comes back from the dealer with the BH installed.
