Thanks RonMa for your comments. It certainly works better with the rate knob screwed right down as you say. I've been away 2 months and only been able to get back to my new toy today!

I note the interesting messages that have come in since. My 284 came with two ports one for supply and one for return. However the return one did not have the same connector fitting as the hose from the backhoe tank. I got a hose Dr in and he fitted a connection which works. However I've still got a problem. The oil builds up in the backhoe tank and overflows out the top. I've got a temporary solution with a bit of garden hose from the dipstick back to the tractor. Any ideas what is happening now?

I attach a picture which shows the two ports with hoses and my green garden hose coming from the top left to act as my temprary oil return.

Any clues as to what I've got wrong or how to set this up properly much appreciated.

If you want to run off the tractor's hyd resevoir, you cannot use the tank on the backhoe, it should be removed and plumbed direct to the valve blocks. Some would say that the 200 series Jinma lift box is not a large enough resevoir for backhoe use, but many are doing it with success. under heavy use, the oil will get HOT a larger sump (backhoe tank) can help but that requires a separate pump (PTO or tractor mounted abobe the PTO) so the hyd oil can be pumped separately from tractor hyd. oil.
