backhoe attachment on skidder problem

were in the process of trying to fit a regular size john deere backhoe attachment onto the back of my fathers 230 timberjack skidder. the problem that we have is where and how to run the hyraulic pump. the dealer says that out 30 GPM is too big to run off the front of the motor and we run the risk of snapping the crank shaft off. there is very little room on the side of the trans to run a PTO too. we were thinking about running it with a v belt arrangement or chain drive coming off the trans tailshaft. would the belts provide enough grip to drive the pump? how fast would the pump have to run to get the needed flow? any help would be great

This is a 20 GPM clutch pump. Snap the crankshaft. I doubt it.

If you need 30 GPM, the pump will need about 51 HP.

3.5 cu in, at 2500 psi and turning 2500 rpm.

If you have an auxiliary shaft, you could possibly make it work.

I think the first thing we need to know is the backhoe attachment open or closed system,is the 30 gal pump off a backhoe if so what model?

the only reason i mentioned snapping the crank is because the dealer said that the crank is only rated for something like a 15 gpm pump.

and what exactly do you mean by an open or closed system

Most JD backhoes used a closed system and more than likely you will need more than the pump you have,take a pic of backhoe and pump and model # of the hoe or what TLB it came off of.

Where are you getting the 30gpm number from? How big is this backhoe attachment? For comparison, a John Deere 110TLB (43hp engine) only uses 16.3 gpm to run the backhoe portion (source)

The plate if it has one should be on the valve plate cover if not take some pic's of the BH and the pump,do you know what the tractor model it came off of 300-400-500-etc JD ?
