when you push the joystick to the 12 ptn, that's float. It's not supposed to come back to center, it's a non pressure drop that is often used when you're backdragging and want the bucket to follow the contours of the ground. If you only push it part way, you can power the bucket down instead of having it float down. With higher RPMs, that will happen faster.
Don't push it into float from high up, just power it down, and when you want to float, push it into that locked position.
You may just be getting air from somewhere, and it may be caused by floating that bucket if a seal is allowing any air in.
Pick up the loader, operate the functions a few times, power the bucket down and let it sit for 30 seconds. See if that makes it any better. John

john, the stick i'm talking about is for the backhoe. it is the left stick in the foward or 12 oclock pos. the little cylinder under the pivot point has about a 1/4" of play in it and wont come back to center. chris

That is a float position as well, and you have to bring it back to center yourself just as on the loader when in float. John

I didn't know that a BH had a float position. Maybe they just use the same joystick control. I've only used multiple lever controls before for a BH. One for each operation. If you go into float with the FEL joystick, you can definitely feel resistance then in locks forward. Does yours feel like that? I have to see my dealer on Monday. I ask him about your problem and see if he has an answer.

Yes, the boom stick has a float position (L control lever). This makes it much easier to scrape the bottom of a trench as you pull the dipper straight back, the boom will just follow the contour as you pull the bucket back toward you. John

hey guys', thanks for this info. i can't remember if it did this before i brought it back to the dealer. i thought both sticks felt the same. now i know on the fel the float is all the way foward and i can actually feel it go into float, but this is sloppy before i start to get any resistance pushing the stick foward and when i lifted the boot i could see about a 1/4" of play on the cylinder that pushes into the valve body. now the other controls dont do that and when it finally starts to push down on the cylinder it takes a couple of seconds before the boom actually engages and start to push into the dirt and when it does its quick and hard. i'v had it only 2 weeks and 1 of those weeks was wasted due to weather and dealer. already have 23 hours in just 3 actual work days. the way i'm going i will have to trade in every year for a new one. this tractor has more power than i thought it would. i was building a block retaining wall, blocks were 18" x 12" x 8" and was putting 7 at a time in the bucket and was in high gear with no problem with some of the small inclines. low was great. i'm learning very quickly about fel work and curling the bucket. can get a full bucket of clay and soil in every shot. i guess if i would want a change i would buy the cup holder kioti john wants so bad and may put a 25 hp motor in it just because. any more info on this joy stick would be appreciated. thanks, chris

the one time I ran a back hoe (JCB 224 or 244???) It had a detent on the left stick, but not if you moved it forward. The detent was on the left. You all probably think I'm crazy, but thats the way it was. You push it to full left, it'll stay there and the hoe will move to the left (slowly tho) with out you touching it. The only thing I could make of it was that somebody screwed up, and what should have floated the boom up/down, ended up being on the left side. Any thoughts?

Someone screwed up. There would be no real use for having this set up on the swing and not on the boom. They must have mixed the connetors wrong. John

I have to go out of town for a few days, but when I get back, I'll check into this in more detail and get back to you.
I believe this can be adjusted out, but I'll have to look at it.
John
