I am thinking of getting a hoe for the 2520. How much are they going for with a decent dealer discount. If you don't mind could you tell me how much you guys paid. I'm putting together the powerpoint for my wife! Haha

My invoice indicates I paid $6,168.00 for my 46 hoe in 2008 and that included all the stuff to make it work like the power beyond equipment and other hidden stuff you don't know about but need. Hint, a spreadsheet works well for me and the wife.

Thanks Gizmo. 6k is alot of money. Do you feel you got your moneys worth from the hoe? I am not sure if it would just be cheaper to rent once in a while.

I had one for my JD650 for 20 some years and did a lot of work with it, more than paid for itself. Bought my new JD2320 in 08 and my wife convinced me to buy another one for this tractor.

Here is the deal, when I bought the JD650 I could not afford the BH but needed it and bought it. Come to find out I could not afford to not have the BH, saved a lot of money early on. Now that we are established in our life and property I don't really think we needed to have another one but we had the money, funny how that is. I have not used the new one once since we got it. However I do plan to use it some this summer. I would say it depends on your property and setup.

The problem with a BH purchase is you can never justify it until you have one and on the other hand you will make a lot of work for yourself by just owning it. I do not regret the first purchase and I do not regret the new purchase. I will add one more point, Resale, I traded my 20 year old 650 with FEL and BH in for my 2320 and the 650 was on the dealer lot for two (2) days and it was sold.

I bet this makes everything clear as mud!!

My 46 backhoe was right at $5800 in December of 2007. Wish I'd bought it with the tractor, because I'd have gotten a better discount.

Thanks guys,
I thought it might be like buying the loader for my tractor. My wife even says that it was worth the money since I do so much with it. Makes life easier!
Work smarter, not harder, right?

The list of BH projects was my longest item list for justifying getting a 2520.

There were things I didn't have on that list until after I got it, too. Like pulling out stumps and lifting trees off the ground to put blocking under to cut up for firewood.
I don't see myself even taking the BH off for another year I use it that often still.

Probably obvious, but keep an eye on Craigslist for a used one. I happened across a real nice fellow who bought the same tractor as mine second hand and didn't want the backhoe. I took my tractor down to his house and we made a day of the swap-over, complete with pizza delivery. Switching the frame over was a chore, but not that bad. It was great fun and I saved $1300-ish over new.
