I just called my Kioti dealer and he says the smallest bucket for my back hoe is 12 inches wide. I need to dig some trenches and think a much narrower bucket might work better, say a 8-9 inch one. Any of you using a small bucket like that?

I've got both a 9" and a 16" and had no problems with either.
The 9" makes a beautiful trench.

I'm glad I got a 9", I've dug some stuff up that a bulldozer operator pointed to and said he couldn't, it was a shale shelf on my driveway, I started poking at it and it was easy to separate it into big rocks and dig a ditch thru it. Around here in NW VA everything is rocks. I'll get a bigger bucket for more earth moving type stuff someday. Right now I wouldn't want anything bigger.

Thank you, gentlemen. Do you remember what brand or who made your 9 in. bucket? I have a Kioti 2385 backhoe, which works very well, so I need one that fits that model. I have quite a bit of trenching to dig to run drainage pipe to route water away from the house.

Don't know if the number is the same, as I have a 2376 hoe, but the Kioti number is 293051 for the 9" "spoon". Works really well for trenching or small stump removal

Hi, I have a CK20 with 9 inch, works great for smaller work, find a trench over 2 feet deep is dificult to get the bucket in without fiddling and harder to work in due to the wiidth also have the 16 inch, either one can dig a big hole in little time

The trenches I need to dig with a narrow bucket are about 8-10 inches deep. Most of them are to bury tubing to carry downspout water away from the house. I also want to run a water line from the house out to the back of the property to connect to a hydrant. Our ground doesn't freeze here, so burial of water lines is not deep. I don't know what code says, but I doubt it's more than 24 inches.

I have a 12" bucket and a 24". The 12" is of course narrower but it is also much smaller volume which hurts. It takes a long time to trench with such small volume. My woods hoe could easily handle a bigger load from a higher volume 12" or 9" bucket. My buddies excavator buckets are sort of porportioned to get big bites even with small buckets - much faster. I have never checked to see if they make these kind of buckets for our small backhoes.
