Thanks for the response Harry....
I'm not sure I understand but I don't think there is a fuel return line from the injector pump back to the tank. There's a rubber feed line from the supply pump to the inj pump(Bosch k type mini) and 4 pipes from the inj pump to the 4 injectors.
I tested the supply pump by disconnecting the hose into the inj pump and cranking the motor. Like you said it produced a steady pulse of fuel which seemed pretty strong although I have no way of knowing for sure. Btw I tested both the old and new pumps and both performed the same. I'm thinking I replaced a pump that wasn't broken.
Lol...but it was cheap enough (60.00) and both the dealer and injector/pump rebuilder told me to look at that before moving on to the inj pump. Well worth the education too.
I'm not sure what the signs of a bad inj pump are. I'm assuming I wouldn't get 10-15 minutes of normal performance from a bad pump. Or maybe it needs to get to operating temp before it fails?

I had a 35hp Marine diesel made by Kubota in a 36 ft sailboat. We had the same issue with dropping in RPM and stalling.... Of course it always happens at the worst possible moment.

The problem turned out to be a bad wire powering the feed pump. it was bad all the way back into the where it came out of the wiring harness.... I was able to get back into the bundle and cut and replace the wire.... Problem never happened again... Does the tractor have a electric feed pump?

Regards,
Chris

Problem solved!!!
And I feel like a real *** coming back here and owning up to it. Kubota diesels don't it like it when you try to run them on gas.
Normally I pump the diesel myself or at least make sure that the attendant is using the right pump. Apparently, I wasn't watching at the last fill up....probably on my cell phone....that's a lesson right there huh?. And I went home and filled the tractor assuming it was diesel.
Over the last two 2 weeks me and another guy have spent hrs trying to figure this out. Probably drained the tank twice and spilled another gallon on the ground or on our clothes and never picked up on the smell!!!!! I hope I learned a lesson....don't assume anything.
Anyhow guys....thanks for the responses. At the very least I got a bit of an education in how a fuel system works.

Oh that hurts. Glad you found it at least!!! Didn't you catch the gas vs diesel smell at least?

My brother put gas in the diesel tank on our International McCormick WD9 back in the day when kids on the farm. Burned the valves so had to have them reground.
