I had a missing bolt on my loader frame, (the ones that go into the clutch housing) so I went and got a bolt but wouldn't you know it things are never as simple as they seem. the hole is stripped and I took out another bolt to make sure I had the right bolt before torquing them all down. I torqued them to the spec in the manual 60 lbft and now I have two stripped bolt holes. so the right side only has one bolt and I didn't even touch the left side for fear of stripping more of them.

Is this a known issue and what can the dealer do about it. I've looked for helicoil kits and found some but I'm thinking a keensert seems to be more permanent but the ones I found are too short.

I bought the tractor used and I know it had a backhoe on it and was worked pretty hard because the bucket is beat up pretty bad. the backhoe is no longer there and I had the dealer I bought it from replace some missing bolts on the loader frame but I think I might of missed this one because the hydraulic hoses run by there and it is hard to see the hole.

I've used both and jergens inserts like the keenserts and the jergens better than helicoils if you have the room for them.
Mainly because they use standard taps for the new thread and if they need to be removed you can drill out the locks and back them out.

Some places the wall is sufficient to tap out to their size then I go for the helicoils.

The other choice is use heli's and if you have a problem later on you can go the jergens (because they are larger).

thanks for the links

the problem with these is that the bolt is 35mm long approx. 10mm of loader frame which leaves me with 25mm of engagement in the clutch housing if I go with a helicoil kit I can get them in lengths of 24mm but the timeserts or keenserts only have them in 16mm and I'm worried about not having enough engagement.

I'm not really worried about wear because once the hole is fixed this will probably be the last time those bolts will get touched other than a torque check .

so I'm leaning towards a helicoil kit just because of the engagement length even though I feel that a keensert would be a better repair if disregarding the engagement. the keenserts are also more expensive 16$ per insert plus 33$ for the installation tool.

I work in the aircraft engine field and we are constantly replacing pulled out helicoils but in a different application with problems such as high rates of installation and removal of bolts and corrosion of the base metal (magnesium)
but some engines have keenserts and those never give us problems.

.

Engagement length should be 1.5 times bolt diameter. Anything over 2x is wasting your time and money as it addds nothing to the strength of the joint.

I have been there and done that in similar situations and can say the above posts would be hard to improve on. They know what they are talking about and said it perfectly.
