I apologize in advance for being a wiring idiot!

I am trying to wire up a work light on B7610. I have located the work light wires under the seat and if I understand previous threads correctly the "Red / Blue" wire is +12V and the Black with the ring end is the ground.

I want to wire up a 12V Cigarette lighter socket for plugging in a 55W work light. I do not need a switch since I do not use this frequently and can simply plug and unplug the light as needed.

Can I connect the socket directly to the wires under the seat and get power when the ignition is on?

Kevin,

I would suggest you connect a volt meter to the wires and check for voltage by using the on/off switch. It will also verify polarity of the wiring for you.

Yes, there is a "hot" wire under the seat that is +12V whenever the key is on. I forget the color of wire, but it has a hoop connector on the end. That's where I tapped off (via a switch) for my rear lights when I had my 7610. As suggested, always check first with a voltmeter.

AS for ground, I just tied the lights (-) to the ROPS. Worked great for ground.

Thanks for the replies...I figured it out.

The Red/Blue is the +12V

The Black is the Ground but you need to attach the black wire to the frame and then ground the wire from the socket to the same location to complete the circuit. I was trying to wire the ground from the light directly to the black without attaching it to the frame first.

I have a B7500 and i'll go look but what you just said doesn't make sense, what you basically did was to connect both the black factory wire and the negative wire from the light to ground/frame. If the black factory wire was indeed a ground wire there would be no need to connect it to the frame.
