I finally narrowed things down and I'm going to put a deposite on a B7500 tomorrow (tues). Getting the loader but may be holding off on the back hoe. I can save about 1K if I make a trip to Main. But that really isn't the biggest issue.
I've decided to go with a Woods subframe mount, but looking for opinions on the following:
1) PTO pump vs. tractor hydraulics.
Thanks iin advance and for past help. Looking forward to be part of the owners group and out of the wannabe group.

I have looked at the Woods (for my B7500) but don't own one myself. My dealer is quite impressed on it, and recommends it over the stock Kubota backhoe (at least for the B7500).

I presume you are going for the 6500? Maybe the 7500? At any rate, because the hydraulic requirements for a backhoe are pretty high, I would lean toward the PTO hydraulic option. I know it costs a bit more, but I think it would be worth it. Might also make the attach/detach routine slightly easier. Let us know what you get. I look forward to what other more knowledgable types might have to say on this topic.

There is no doubt in my mind to go with the PTO driven hydraulic pump. You will be far happier with the machine if you do.

We will not even sell a hoe for any of our B or L series tractors that is not PTO pump driven, 2 BIG reasons; As soon as your engine RPM is enough to turn your PTO at 540 RPM, the hoe is working as efficiently as it can...no reason to scream the engine during the dig just to get that extra 1/2 GPM of flow to work the hoe. Also, remember that with the exception of your engine oil and front differential fluid, ALL of your tractor fluids, rear diff., power steering, hydraulic, brake bath, and most importantly hydrostatic fluid, are all housed in ONE large reservoir. An inherent problem with backhoes is cut hydraulic lines, which allow dirt into the system. Worst case scenario with a PTO pump and self contained reservoir is a new $600 pump. Worst case scenario when introducing that dirt into the on board hygraulic sysyem? New hydrostatic pump, hydraulic pump...

On the other hand . . . how nice is it to only have to monitor one "fluid" system and pump in the whole set up . . . Fluid is under pressure, it bleeds out quickly and if you cut a hose using the hoe, you'll know it and have time to quickly shut things down. My hoe/7500 combo works just swell without the PTO pump.

Perhaps you can do what I did -- try the hoe at home with the tractor hydraulics first. You'll probably end up spending that $600+ on something else more useful -- I bought a brand new Bush Hog cutter.

Rich, My B 2710 HST has a Woods 7500 Backhoe mounted with a subframe. The combination works well, usually leave the engine @ 1500-1700 unless there is a need for a little extra. Your dealer probably has a rental unit in the yard that you could practice with.
Good luck JayT
