While working the ol' B7500 there was an awful WHINE from under the hood, then I smelt something that was like burned rubber, and then noticed my battery light on.... I believe my altenator just died .... Sound correct?

If it died what are the altenators going for these days in both standard and high output capactity (or what are the part numbers)?

Thanks!
Bo

You didn't say that you opened the hood, so it could be a fan belt or maybe the bearing in the alternator. I take it you have no manual?

Wouldn't the B7500 have the dynamo? There have been several threads on dynamo bearing replacement-Egon and Chezhsonofagun I think.Maybe a good time to upgrade to an alternator kit? Good Luck!

Opened the hood and the fan was still a turning... I have a manual, not a repair/service manual but owners manual.

I haven't looked for the dyno or alternator type. I'll do that hopefully this evening. I just know the battery light comes on when the switch is ON. You can also smell like burnt plastic too (maybe there's a voltage regulator gone bad).

this happened to me last summer on a b2150 and it turned out to be a waterpump.

open the hood and check things out before buying parts, the waterpump seized which made the whining noise then the belt snapped so the battery light goes on because the water pump and alternator/dynamo is on the same strap.

Big thanks to the folks at Orange Tractor Talk, but a visit to the local altenator shop and a $20 bill, he put in 3 bearings, cleaned it up, tested it and it's working wonderfully!!
I love this thing called the internet!
