b7500 air filter

I wanted to change the inner air filter on my b7500 on Saturday; first time it's been changed (113 hours). I could see from the new filter that it appeared that you just pull the old filter out and stick the new one in (versus screwing it in or something).

The old one would not come out; it ended up breaking off. The actual filter part pulled out of the end piece that fits into the airhose.

I could not pull that broken end piece out; I tried to pull it with a pair of pliers, but the plastic part that I could grab onto with the pliers is not strong enough (the pliers would just crush it). I ended up sticking the old filter back on (there was enough of a ring left that it could hold on fairly well).

Is there any trick to this? Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions.

I changed the filter a couple months ago (actually, the dealer tech came out, but I was alledgedly taking notes), but I'll be darned if I can remember what was done on that particular item. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I think jrogers got it, loosen the hose clamp at the rear of the housing and disconnect the hose. The whole thing should come apart easily. If you damaged the secondary element I would replace it before I put any time on the tractor.

Actually, I loosened up the clamp that holds the air filter housing onto the hose, but the hose was still on the housing so tight that I was afraid that I would break something trying to get it off, which is what usually happen (ie: I had to take the hood off to get to the screw, and I lost the clip pin that holds the hood on). I'll give it another try.

It just seems to me that the inner filter is so fragile that there must have been some other method for me to take it off other than just pulling on it. The housing is too small to get my hand all of the way in to grab the base of the filter to turn it. There was nothing in the manual that I could see to tell how to do this.

The workshop manual is really no better in this area either. The Illustrated parts list has a exploded diagram of the whole thing. With that it's pretty clear how the thing is put together. Sorry about the hood part, the snap pin part number for the hood is, 05525-50800. Left and right sides are the same P/N.

I found this thread while doing a search and looking for information about the inner air filter on the B-series Kubotas. I just replaced the outer air filter on my tractor and had intended to replace the inner one too, but the Parts person at my dealership talked me out of it. I only have about 100 hours on the tractor, but the manual calls for replacement of the inner filter at one year (even if it 'looks clean', I guess).

I'm wondering if other people have bothered to change the inner filter yearly. I'm also wondering how Snowman made out with his /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

It's still in there.

I made another attempt at getting the housing off a efw months ago. No luck. The rubber base of the inner filter seems to be "fused" into the hose outlet. Can't budge it for anything.

I was using pliers gently, but the plastic is so brittle that little pieces were breaking off, so I left it alone as I didn't want little bits of plastic inside the engine.

Just stuck the inner air filter piece that broke off back on the housing again and intend to leave it there until I die.

Is still perfectly clean. I'm not sure what the need for two air filters is if the outer filter keeps it as clean as it has been.

I guess if I ever really need to change the inner filter, I'll have to buy a whole new air filter housing kit.

Ouch! It sounds like trying to get that filter off was pretty annoying. Given what you said I think I will leave mine alone for the forseeable future.

I'm surprised that more people haven't mentioned a problem with this before - don't the B7500/B2x10 all have a two-filter arrangement?
