The decision between a B and BX seems to come up really often so another bump.

Thanks for bringing this thread up JOHNTHOMAS, I just finished reading it. I am at work now, and cant get online when I want, (Im a engineer on a towboat), service on the lower MS is hard to come by at times. But this is making me lean toward a larger B. Being around larger equipment on the farm when im off, I also dont believe bigger is always better. My wife and I just bought our place where we are now a year ago. All the work weve done cleaning the fencerows back, pushing out thickets, and cleaning up around the pond banks will be lost if I dont get something for up keep. When I get off this time, I believe I will start looking into the B. Thanks everyone for there help. I will probly have more questions later on when I start looking into this further. Thanks Lutt.

Seeing more requests concerning purchase of B or BX. Guess this question and the what to do at 50 hours are and will continue to be the two biggest or most common questions on the forum.

Yeah, sure I realized the 'Bota would make a fine mower, but I dealt with that issue in my head at the dealership. Let's see, gorgeous mower deck, with swivel wheels for easy slide in and slide out. What was it $1700 with or without tax? I don't remember.

What I do remember is thinking how close my trees are together and how I intend more trees, and how stinkin' huge that mower deck was!! :D

Cough! Cough! and the price. In my stupor state of being at a tractor dealership, which the courts have upheld, that no male human should be held accountable for his actions, I had a thought. For $1700 plus or minus, I could buy two crappy mowers from in front of Wally World or somewhere.

As you can tell, my lawn isn't that big a part of the property here and growing grass at the 45.5 parallel is almost impossible, mowing isn't on the top of my list. You may find it hard to believe, but the neighbors and I have cut our "lawns" a grand total of maybe 4 or 5 times in 2009. I doubt that BX will ever be asked to do anything as mundane as mow grass. Well, that's the way it is up here in Beaver Creek :D

I had a craftsman...at my house it took 4 hours to mow the lawn with it. The bx2360 with 60" deck takes 1 hour 10 minutes...and has a loader, a box scraper and blows snow.

Interesting observation. The BX and B pictured have been gone for quite awhile from my Kubota stable.:) BP also no longer owns the aforementioned BX in the above quoted reply, he's now a B2320 owner and has been for quite awhile.
I've had some of my wise a.. friends on here bring back some of my earlier posts of me telling that I was done trading since I'd finally found the perfect Kubota or combination of Kubotas then when I traded again the earlier post would appear.
I'm convinced the first tractor purchase is the test tractor to determine the ability of a tractor, your uses and needs and then go for the right tractor. So, the first tractor pick isn't that important anyway, it's just the test tractor.
In my case I've had several test tractors, guess I'm a bit slow. In partial defense of my past (now over) trading habits, my needs had/have changed as I've progressed on my landscaping tasks.:)
I've now got the right combination and my trading days are over..........well, two more payments and my F2680 is paid off..............course my needs may change......................;)

Let me see if I got this right, the first tractor is the "test" tractor to get the "right" tractor; what are the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th...:laughing:

John, I'll believe you have bought your last tractor if you believe I have.

A long long time ago Kubota built some Tractors and sold them. Only one size. People bought them but complained that it was to big and other people complained that it was to little and other people complained that it was to expensive and others said they'd pay more if it would do more.
Kubota hired a Marketing team to help them decide what size and price tractor to build to fill all needs for all buyers. The Marketing team worked on this problem for years and finally everyone on the team quit because they couldn't agree on the one size and one price tractor to fill the needs/wants of all people.
Kubota kept building their one size tractor but kept hearing complaints that it was the wrong size. Well, one day there were some mix ups in the machine that made the tractor frame and some bigger frames started coming out and some engines Kubota had been making for some other companies for their diesel engine needs had went unsold. A new employee didn't know that these were mistakes and put them together and out came a bigger and more powerful tractor. Everyone was fired and a new batch of employees were hired and the "bad" bigger tractors were shipped to America because they will buy anything with an engine and 4 wheels.:D They sold immediately and hundreds of people started coming to Kubota wanting to custom order tractors to meet their specific demands just like people in America would go to their car dealer and order a Chevy, Ford, etc with specific options.:) Kubota said they didn't do that, they didn't have an options sheet so they continued building the regular tractor with the tiny seat for Japanese butts but the big butted Americans complained about that. Word started circulating around the Kubota factory that Americans were just complainers and wanted everything to meet their every whim and desire.
Kubota management had several meetings to decide if they just wanted to quit selling tractors to Americans or maybe build more to suit the American market. The decision was that they were a world wide company and would build what was selling the best/most and then add a few different sizes and seat sizes and stuff for the American market and see what happened. Well those picky American started buying more and continued to complain more so the Company decided to build a few different sizes and go forward.
Years later the Americans complained that the engine needed to be bigger and some complained that it needed to be smaller so the Company decided to build some of the same sized tractors with different sized engines.
Jump to the current day. Now the Americans are complaining that there are to many different tractors with to many different sized engines and options and Kubota should just make one sized engine per one sized tractor frame.
Latest news from Japan!!! The Marketing team has quit again and now Kubota is having to decide what to build to meet all buyers needs. Word is they are just going to stick to their current models until a new Marketing team can be hired.
Guess the decision between buying a BX or B will only end when they quit making one of them.

Looks like the never ending quest to decide which is better, the BX or B is still at full throttle so from days of old here are some points to ponder. And even some pics.:)

Well john that is a nice b3200 in the first picture. About two years ago I bought my first tractor a b2320 I love it but don't like the art inching valve. I have been thinking of trading for a b3200. Does the 3200 run at a lower rpm for pro speed than the b2x20 series? I was thinking of email Brady as a matter of fact :)

Pretty sure the 3200 is inching also

I think I ran the B7800, B3200, B2320 and now the B2620 all at about the same RPMs for moving from place to place (1500 to 2000RPM) and working at around 2100 to 2300RPM.
Believe all also have the 1/4 inching valve which has never been a problem for me with the type of jobs/implements I use. I had an L3240 with position control and it was nice but no big deal for me. I drop implements and adjust back up to desired level and go.:)

As John says they all have the quarter inching valve until you get into the Bxx30 or other higher priced, later models like one of the B3000 etc.

Some have no problem with quarter inching while others such as myself hate them and some who don't like them initially learn to live with and like them.

Here are a couple of threads by the late ChuckinNH which might help:

I used a rotary mower one time so the 1/4 inching valve hasn't been something I've used much. I'm even going to try and sell the Rotary Mower, a 4' Taylor Way for $500.. With my tiller I just drop it which I'm also going to sell it for $750, it's a Kubota and my plow is a single bottom plow which I also just dropped it to the bottom since the wheel kept it spaced but alas $300 will take it away from me to never use again and my Ferguson Overseeder just dropped to the ground and rolled and dropped the seed/fertilizer but also $450 will find it a new home. So, with no implements other than the BH the valve doesn't bother me.

Seems the BX or B question is a never dying one. Here are some insights from different owners to help make the decision a bit easier or at least a bit more/better informed.
I've traded a fe times since this was originally posted and now use 2 Kubota F mowers for all of my mowing.

Did you ever finish that stone wall you started back in 09? Or were you too busy riding those tractors?

/ B3200 BX2660 SIDE BY SIDE...NOT BETTER....DIFFERENT #57
As one who also has worked BX1860, a BX2360 and a B2320, there is indeed a difference. They're aimed at different owners each have strengths. Kubota makes lots of models of BX's to meet the needs of people, as well as a plethora of B models, both "Basic" and "Deluxe" to also meet the desires and needs of other people. Same with the L's and M's.

No one tractor can be "Super Man" tractor and do all things equally well. But, somewhere within the Kubota Orange line is probably a tractor that will meet MOST of one's needs. Prioritize your needs and pick yourself out one. If you can afford it and have the space? Pick out a couple!

:confused3: :D 09 was 5 years ago and I've "finished" several low stone walls and torn them down and redone them several times since then. That's one of my main reasons for have a tractor with FEL and BH. I do continues and changing landscaping.
I sit around during the winter and come up with ideas and plans of what I can move, redo or do something new to Wow my Grandkids (9 and 9, twins, boy and girl and 2 1/2 grandson) and keep me busy and entertained.
I did finish the wall beside the tractor pics and then tore the center down a couple of years ago when I built another garage on the upper side of my car garage and then this past summer tore the edges of the center opening back down and made the edges curved.:dance1:
I don't farm, log or maintain mile long gravel roads so my needs are for mostly landscaping a hillside 5 acres home site plus keeping an old mountain logging road maintained enough to drive my RTV on it which is just mowing and trimming overhanging limbs/briars/weeds and occasionally moving a fallen tree. I do also maintain 4 or 5 acres of flat rental property with 6 septic tanks.
I've went thru lots of implements and most of them worked for their intended purpose but I've sold/traded almost all of them off except for some chain attach bucket forks, one set of cheap quick hitches, RatchetRake and a drawbar. I still use the forks and of course the RatchetRake.
I'm mostly at the maintain stage so my needs have changed from 11 years ago when I was attacking a 5 acre hillside on which I wanted to build my final home.
Along the way my needs have changed thru the different stages of "construction/creation"
and I've changed equipment, also changing to different equipment has given me a sense of what equipment will do a better job for "MY" purposes. I mostly see downsizing or keeping where I'm at now but I've said that several times in the past as some of my "friends" are quick to bring back one of my old posts where I've said I've done my final and last trade. I would trade my current B2620 FEL BH to a BX25 if/when the right deal comes along but I can be satisfied with the B.:)
OK, that's a really long answer to the stone wall question.
