When I changed the HST filter on my B3030 as part of the 50 hour service,
I noticed printed on the new filter instructions to replace the filter every 200
hours. The manual doesn't specifically state when to change the HST filter.
It just has an entries for transmission fluid change and Hyd. oil filter cleaning at 300 hours.

I was wondering if this is a new recommendation or if there is a dealer service
bulletin about changing the HST filter sooner than 300 hours?

My grand L maintenance manual lists the hydraulic filter at 200 hours and the HST filter at 400 hours. It would be interesting to know if there was a change.

This has to be one of the more confusing aspects of the Kubota manual.

My Grand L 3240 Manual's "SERVICE INTERVALS" chart shows....
3 Transmission oil filter [HST] -- Replace -- every 200 hr -- ref page 96
4 Hydraulic oil filter -- Replace -- every 400 hr - ref page 99
5 Transmission fluid -- Change -- every 400 hr - ref page 99

Simple huh? BUT...

on page 96 under "Replacing Transmission Oil Filter [HST type} the very first instruction is...

"1. Remove the drain plugs at the bottom of the transmission case and drain the oil completely into the oil pan." [emphasis mine].

And on page 99 under "Changing Transmission Fluid / Replacing Hydraulic Oil Filter" the very first instruction is...

"1. Remove the drain plugs at the bottom of the transmission case and drain the oil completely into the oil pan." [emphasis mine].

In fact the only fundamental difference in the instructions on page 96 and page 99 is instruction 6...

Page 96 inst. 6 "After the filters have been replaced fill the transmission oil up to the upper notch on the dipstick."

vs

Page 99 inst. 6 "Fill with the new KUBOTA SUPOER UDT fluid up to the upper notch on the dipstick."

Since the HST Transmission and Hydraulics share the same 11 gal reservoir in my L3240, the only way I can see following these instructions _without_ changing the full 11 gal of UDT every 200 hrs, is to refill the tranny with 11 gal of used UDT. Which BTW ain't going to happen to my tractor :) I simply do not have a way to handle 11 gal of used UDT cleanly.

This is not a trivial typo. The difference is roughly $250 for 11 gals of UDT every other 200hrs.

FWIW I've read about how you can replace the transmission filter without draining all the UDT. That MAY be what Kubota had in mind. But it is NOT what they wrote into their instructions.

That is my biggest gripe with Kubota is their cheap looking and inaccurate manuals. I don't know if they don't translate from Japenese very well or what the problem is but the manuals don't measure up to the product they represent. My L3830 and ZD21 manuals both have several errors and inaccurate statements in them. I indicated in my product review form on both machines that they should start from scratch on these manuals.
