Tractor
B2920
This has happened twice now within 2 weeks. The tractor will be running normally, and then I'll get up out of the seat (something I'd already done numerous times before) and as my weight comes off, the tractor will sputter and stall out...as if the pto was engaged (it's not) and the safety mechanism shut it off.

But, the real problem is now the tractor won't start at all. I get it to the glow plug indicator for a few seconds and when I turn the key to start, I get nothing. Doesn't matter whether it's in nuetral or in a gear.

Two weeks ago when this happened I just kept at it on and off for a few hours and then for no reason I can figure out, I tried it one more time and it came back to life.

It's worked fine since then and then happened again yesterday...as it's getting dark...in the furthest part of my woods. Had to use my atv to tow it back to the garage and with the FEL and 60" box blade, and my polaris didn't really enjoy the uphill tow.

Oh, and unfortunately I'm about 3 months out of warranty.

Has anyone else had anything similar happen? Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks

There is a safety switch under the seat that will shut the motor down when you take weight off from it. It should start though when you are again seated in the seat. Perhaps that switch is malfunctioning.

Have you tried jiggling the PTO lever? Sounds to me like the PTO safety switch may be the culprit. Maybe the PTO lever isn't exactly in the "off" position, or the switch is faulty or mis-aligned.

This has happened to me a few times and I only recently figured it out. On mine the throttle pedal was sticking just enough to trip the switch. One time it started after i played with all the pto, gear and seat switches totally by coincidence. I almost left it outside a week ago but accidentally hit the throttle just as I was going to give up. I just noticed a little movement (back to normal) and then it started fine. I greased the pedal but it still sticks a little and I have just gone over 100 hours. It about drove me crazy!

Micheal,

Your senario was enjoyed by me this summer several times.....seems I was getting off the tractor on the left side and slightly bumping the PTO lever.....

couple times it would stall while getting off seat and once It just wouldn't start....:ashamed:.......in my case it was the PTO Lever ....

Thanks for the help, guys. Donn, what you mentioned seems to be similar to my problem. I found this post (below) last night from about a year ago and did a little experimenting. I got on the tractor (it's now been dead for over 24 hours) and tried to start it...nothing. I then rocked the foot pedal back and forth, forward to reverse, several times and then tried it again. It started right up like there was no problem at all. I'm going to get some new grease down there tonight. Hopefully it solves the problem and is not just some temporary remedy. Don't want to get stranded again.

Also, a few of you mentioned trying to jiggle the pto lever when the problem was going on. I did try that, but the clutch or something must have been in one of it's weird spots where I couldn't budge the lever forward or backwards. When the tractor is running and that happens I can normally just move the tractor a few inches one way or the other and then I can get the pto engaged. With the tractor dead in the water, nothing was budging anywhere.

Thanks again, everyone.

"It is getting worse, and it will continue to get worse, to the point that when you stop to get off the tractor it will kill the engine because it thinks the HST pedal is not in neutral. At first, I thought that the HST damper was not working properly and was preventing the complete return to neutral. I removed it to troubleshoot, and I soon found out that it is not the problem. I did eventually find the problem, and I "trained" my dealer on a solution...there is a pin that is attached to the HST linkage that pushes a switch when the HST pedal is in 'neutral'. This pin runs through a little cylinder that keeps it in position to hit the switch. After some time, the pin starts to bind up slightly in the cylinder. If you look under the tractor, on the right side where the HST linkage is you should see it.

I added some grease to this point with a grease gun and that solved the problem. I won't say that it addressed the problem, but it solved it. There really should be some kind of nylon bushing or something of the sort at this point to prevent the metal-on-metal contact.

FYI - my tractor started having this issue right after the 200 hour mark."[/I]

Greased up the foot pedal last night but it was after midnight, so there wasn't a chance to (hopefully) start it up and make sure everything's good. The zerk for the forward/reverse pedal is tucked way up under the deck with many obstructions. Even with the flex hose on my grease gun, it was pretty tricky to get it seated to get the grease in.

Tractor not starting, a week ago it would start every time. Parked it a week ago and today it just makes a clicking sound and the engine does not even turn over. I hooked my truck up to it and still all it would do was make clicking sound, but a half or third of a turn of the engine once or twice in an hour of working with it. Hooked up a battery charge and let it charge all day, only a clicking sound for about 2 minutes and then nothing, even the glow plug lights and others that come on when you turn the key would not ever light up. Does anyone know what can be happening, is it the battery or something else.

Have you tried checking you main fuse this happened me on my bx,took a while to figure out main fuse was flighty loose, just enough that if you rocked the tractor when getting off it or went over a bump a certain way it would stall and not start, and then two hours a day two days later it would start . Worth a look .
