B2920 plastic part

There is a plastic rectangular piece located on the right fender behind the 3 p.t lifting and lowering control. It basically looks like there could be a cup holder there like there is on the left side. I was looking at it an pressed on it and it actually came off but luckily I was able to put it back in place. Is there any purpose to this part? Also how sturdy are the hand rails for getting on and off the mower? They are also plastic it seems.

I think its for a hydraulic remote, but am not 100% sure. Hand rails flex a bit, but are very sturdy, I have used mine extensively to pull myself up (had a knee injury) and they've held up. It'd be nice if they offered another cup holder insert for that removable panel, or maybe a small storage area. I'm always looking for more storage space for small tools.
