I have a small window of opportunity. High of 30 and sunshine until the snow starts again tonight. I’m going at it with the heat gun and I have an infrared heater that would fit at the front of the tractor and secured by the hood on top of it. Next remove solenoid, if no change, it’s a fuel replacement with warm fuel. While empty I’ll blow the hoses out again. Bleed and hope we’re running.

Really hoping it’s the solenoid. If so, is there a danger leaving it off and covering the hole while I work?

Just cover the hole because “splash oil” WILL leak out..& check it often..
And remember, u won’t be able to shut it down unless u simulate the solenoid operation..

One wonders if the nice 30 deg warm spell will last long enough to remove any of the possible left over severe cold issues. I think surely that should remove the possible gel issue once and for all. Your plan sounds solid to me.
The only problem I can see with removing and leaving the solenoid off while you work (if it runs OK then) is how to shut off the engine when you want to/need to. Someone else suggested to shut off the air supply at the air intake. I don't know if you have a fuel shutoff valve anywhere or not. Regardless, you need to plan for how to stop the engine if/when you leave the solenoid off. Boy we wish you luck here !

This was the reservoir this morning. So I drained the fuel, blew out hoses, removed the top of the filter. There were remnants of what I think was a paper towel, in the filter inlet nipple. It must have been frozen inside when I blew it out a few days ago.

I need fuel and hope to know today.

PURRING LIKE A DIESEL KITTY!!! The fact the tiniest piece of paper towel would cause all of this... it's comical now... wasn't comical before. I'm thankful for all of the help! I got two vehicles un-burried and 1 more to go. We're looking at 1' of snow by Thursday so I really needed that plow truck dug out.

I'm thankful for the process, I learned more about diesel engines.

Good to hear....remember all you need for diesel to run is fuel and compression once it starts. Can't have any air in fuel lines or it might chug but not run right. And of coarse you can't stop the flow with a paper towel either.
