I have a B26 with 150 hours on it. It starts and idles well. When I put it in gear it will creep forward and back, but if I depress the speed control pedal past a creep it shuts down immediately. There seems to be a clicking noise that corresponds with the amount of pedal depression that causes the shut down, like a safety switch.

I have eliminated the seat switch as the cause, and moved on to the neutral safety switch. It looks to be working properly but I have not attempted to adjust it. All references I can find suggest the tractor shouldn't even start if this switch is malfunctioning.

Should I proceed with adjusting the neutral safety switch or does someone have another idea? Thank you.

IMHO I would bypass the switch, ie hold it closed, and see what happens. I had the same problems with an old 2200 and a 2620 I had and zip tied the switch . Problem solved. When I traded them in I showed the dealer the zip tie and mentioned he might want to fix the switch.

The tractor "thinks" you are not in the seat, therefore when you press the "go" pedal the engine fuel stop solenoid snaps shut. Seat switch has 2 sections, test it with a good VOM or replace it or bypass it.

The results are the same with the switch wired, not wired, or bypassed with a jumper, so I believe it is not the seat switch (at least not at the switch end).

If the safety switches are failing you will not be able to start. Since it starts and idles I would inspect the linkages and see if a wire is being pinched when you move the accelerator.

Can you track down the location of the click you are hearing?

Thank you. It is a B26 so I will look up the same for that model.

Check fuel water separator, if it is cold and there is water in there and it's frozen engine may not be getting enough fuel

my B26 has done this, check the switch in front and slightly under the seat that lets the tractor know the seat is in the forward facing position.

Seat switch or seat rotation switch b26 has 2 switches

Woody, thanks for asking.

SandyC gets the credit, it was the HST switch. I pried it free and tied it closed with a zip tie and had a great day on the tractor.

Now I need advice on the HST switch. I don't understand how it works, first of all. Once I understand this, it will help me either determine if I can adjust the switch or if it needs to be replaced.

Let me rephrase that last post. I understand how the switch physically works. I don't understand why there is a hydrostatic transmission switch? What is the purpose? If I screw the adjustment nuts down so the post is always partly retracted (remember, the tractor is shutting off when I push the pedal and the switch post is fully extended), what danger am I exposing the tractor to?

Sounds like the HST switch worked fine but a seat switch is not letting the tractor know you are in the seat.

If you bypass the HST switch you allow the tractor to be started up "in gear" so to speak, someone could get accidentally killed by a machine lurching forwards or backwards.
I expect the HST switch was working correctly and a seat switch was not working correctly. The reason, it appears the neutral switch is doing it's job when the pedal is moved forwards or reverse, and activating the switch.
There is likely to be two parts to the seat switch, or two different switches. If either the "sitting in the seat" switch is not activated, OR the "seat is tilted/ in backhoe position" the the engine should shut down as soon as you press the FWD/REV pedal. So by bypassing the HST/Neutral switch, you most likely have 2 safety switches not working!
If the "seat tilt/in backhoe position switch" is faulty, ensure the backhoe PTO/hydraulic select lever is disengaged as this is in series with the tilt switch and may allow you to proceed.

Yep. seat switch. The HST switch is working as it should..

the lever on the switch I described before will be out of alignment and will not be making the switch up.
