Mowing B1550 Mower Operation

My B1550 is a gear drive model. When using the mowing deck the blades will stop turning when the clutch is pushed in. Does anyone know how the deck works with hydro drive? I would suspect that the deck blades turn always and that using the hydro pedal operates the speed and direction of the tractor.
I'm considering to trade up to a B1550 or B1750 with hydro, it seems it is a lot more convienent, would you agree?
