When we recovered our deck 12 years ago we went with Fiberon decking from 84 Lumber. It was less expensive than TREX, easy to install, and has been extremely durable and very low/almost zero maintenance.

Is 84 Lumber still in business?

Any sun fading issues as our deck will have a southwest sun exposer ?

They are probably both very good. I have Azek and it's done quite well for about 8 years now. I pressure wash a couple of times a year and spot clean any stained areas (grease, mold, tree sap). The hidden fastener systems looks good and is reliable. I have a combination of light and dark tones and fading is minimal at this time.

The negatives are heat buildup in the sun and being slippery with snow and frost, but I think that's going to be the case wiht any composite.

Mine has a full southern exposure here in MD and we’ve seen very little fade in the last 12 years. About the only thing I’ve done to it has been an occasional pressure wash.

If you get lots of heat.... look at aluminum decking. I used nexdeck aluminum. Non slip, stays cool in summer. Powder costed. 42E1C7BA-0C34-4F2C-BFF9-C24377424E35.jpeg. I was going to use trex till i talked to a few locals here that had it. They all complained about super hot in summer and slippery in winter. Also some buckling issues.

I'm not aware of any Azek product intended for decking. Azek and Trex are 2 different products intended to be used in different ways. Azek is a PVC board (same as the PVC pipe) it works well as mouldings, and trim and does not need to be painted even in exterior applications. I have it on my cabin and really like it in it's use as trim. It's easy to clean, except where a cut is made and left exposed. When a cut is made a lot of little cells (like honeycomb) are exposed and will collect dirt and be difficult to clean. Those need to be sealed - one way is to use paint another is to sand and then wipe with Acetone, but I've not be especially satisfied with those results. It is not self supporting so spans are limited.

Can AZEKョ Trim be used in structural application?

No, AZEK Trim cannot be used in structural applications. WARNING: AZEK Trim products cannot be used in any stress or structural applications. AZEK Trim products can only be used as the decorative part of your application; either wood or metal structural components need to be incorporated for structural applications. Check with your architect or builder if your application is structural.
