Had one but didn't catch my low power MIG work. Bought the Wel-Bilt from Northern Tool, on sale for $40. Used it for the first time yesterday and worked perfect. They advertise switching speeds of 1/25,000 of a sec. I believe them and does so even on low intensity arcs. It has switched before your eyes register which is what that speed should do.

If interested NT pn is 21306-1464. I was going to give them some feedback as to how I liked it as they asked but they wanted a bunch of info I didn't want them to have so I decided to get the word out this way.

The fancy stripes on the side are free. Grin.

I got what I think is the same helmet and am very happy with it as well. The only problem i have had with it was the time I tried welding using grind mode. That did not work very well at all.

First purchased a HF cheapie. Didn't work with my MIG. Then bought the lowest priced Miller autodark and it has been a dream. Still under a hundred bucks.

I had to buy a new hood the other day. I was sitting there with three dead hoods, each with a price tag of about $400.00 to replace. I'm sixty six and I don't want to spend that amount on something that I won't be using in fifteen years most likely.

Contrary to most I consider the most important thing about a good hood is the head gear and weight. I want a hood where I can get new head gear easily if it goes south. I also want head gear that is easy to use and is easy on body. I also like a hood that is lightweight.

Cheapy hoods are okay for the occasional user. But if you are like me and your hood is like your boots and some days you live in it comfort is as important as anything. So I went to my local welding supply and purchased a Jackson Insight. The only hiccup in the purchase was they only had two of the Insights in stock. One was red with flames. The other was white with a bikini clad red head stretched out on it. I bought the flame one after my bud at the store explained to me that I could exchange the cartridge from my EQC 3 n 1 black hood with the one in the Insight.

One other thing, I wanted a hood that would take a cheater. It was $176.00 for the hood and I got a new cheater while I was at it.

All three of the old hoods suffered from the same ailment. They were all exposed to water at one point, the EQC three times, and like all electronics these days, they curl up and die when wet. Miller Digital Elite, gift from Miller, Jackson EQC 3 n 1, and the best Phantom you could by fifteen years ago. Jackson had the best head gear.

Throw the cartridge in a bag of rice. It just might work. I have brought phones back with this trick.
