As a result of the free trade agreement Holden have anounced it will probably export the holden ute to the US within two years acompanying the monaro. I understand you don't have any vehicle similar. utes here are legendary.
Case-IH Farmall 45A, Kubota M8540 Narrow, New Holland TN 65, Bobcat 331, Ford 1920, 1952 John Deere M, Allis Chalmers B, Bombardier Traxter XT, Massey Harris 81RC and a John Deere 3300 combine, Cub Cadet GT1554
Is this the one you are refering to? If so there are not many like it around anymore. There used to be the Ford Ranchero and the Chevy El Camino that were the same idea but those cars were from a long time ago (before my time). I do not think this car will work here in the states. Not too many people want a car/truck. Most people want a truck/car (truck that has the feel and ride of a car but strength of a truck).
Robert maybe we are little more conservative with fuel here in Australia, because its not cheap here. Anyway here are some more photos of the holden ute. By the way ford make a very similar ute here to.
With the whole retro design thing that is going on, I could see Chevy bringing it over. Redo the front to match the Monte Carlo and call it the El Camino SS. The lines are very close. It really wouldn't be retro but it would be bringing an old name back. GM is doing it with the Monaro, bringing it over and calling it the GTO. WHen I heard that they were bringing the GTO back, figured they would stick a GTO decal on a Grand Prix and jack the price up. I am proud to see that they are keeping it V8 and rear wheel drive. Too bad this GTO isn't built in the USA. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
The monaro had to resemble the original monaro built in the 70s or it would not have sold. Here in Australia the holden monaro and GT ford falcon were icons of the time, there was great rivalry between the two. Touring car success at Bathurst during the 70s was big time for the Holden and Ford market
Nice vehicle, I think I have seen that on tv not to long ago about selling them here... But think if they plan for it to sell here they better offer it as 4door. gas milage or not around bama u see tons of 4dr trucks....now a days compared to what there used to be.
I know I would consider a 4dr vehicle that had a bed on it and gets 25+ ml per gallon. Since I don't need to tow often.
Kuota L3130, Ford 9-n, Allis AC, and a JD 4020 with powershift
The ford rachero was an Aussi design to start with. The high performance ford division in Austraila is called Tickford (SP) they make a nice car. Many of the Australian cars still use 4 l straigt sixs. They have a LOT of torque. I used to pull my 20 cutty cabin inboard and launch and retrive the boat with my 98 ford falcon. Great car, full size with a beauty of a ride.
More power to the Aussies if they can get them into this market. The cars are designed for extream heat and duty cycle. I would buy one again.

Every lad has a shaggin wagon, its was just part of growing up in the 70s-80s attached is one of mine, a 1976 HJ holden panal van as they were called. straight six 202 three on the tree /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I would love to have some extra $$$ and import a Ford Falcon-XB or XC. I have had some Aussie "hot rod" mags in the past, which talked about them, and the Bathurst races and how impressive they were.
It is funny, 'cuase I tend towards Mopars for performance cars. But the Mopars Down Under never caught my attention.
It was interesting in the mags, to see all the four-doors. Hardly anyone up here builds(hot rods) four-doors...
I was never a ford man so to speek, but the Ford Falcon GT was a mean machine. I believe a genuine GTHO Falcon fetches around $50,000 au if there in good condition

K, but this one is a tad on the small size. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Well I shouldn't be supprized..... Funny I haven't seen one on TV...
But yeah the bed would deffenitly be on the tiny side even for my occasional use...
If they could add coouple of feet to the length it might fit the bill for more folks.
My wife would like the size though she doesn't care for a truck as a daily driver...
Says they are to hard to handle in parking lots and such.
A lady I work with drives the Subaru Baja. It is a nice looking car and would serve many folks well. But it is expensive for what you get.I drive a Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4WD and she paid considerably more than I did.
Phil
We don't get the Subaru Baja here, but all the other models though, Subaru's are fairly pricey here. Looks good but not much space in the back.
"Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4WD" This style of auto is very popular now in Australia Nissan patrols, Toyota's, Ford, the list goes on
