MY <font color="orange"> Kubota </font> and <font color="green"> John Deere </font> have the same arrangement for the MMM PTO shaft. It is done this way to get the universal joints at 90 degrees to each other. This allow the maximum offset between the input and output ends of PTO shaft.
I like your idea of using paint to mark proper alignment of the 2 halves. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
