Yep, that's true. The chute is pretty deep but there's no doubt you could lose fingers or a hand (maybe more) if you leaned in there to clear it.

I'd make up a pusher stick of some sort (using dowels rather then nails or screws) before I'd lean in there.
My Woods 5000 chute is angled between 30 and 45 degrees from the vertical. Won't take more then a 5" branch, but that's fine. The chute is too small for me to be dragged in...but I'll take no chances!


My hubby worked for Asplundh many years ago and lost a few gloves into that chipper. Even when using the pusher stick!!! He was so glad to get to level 3 in the apprenticeship!!!:laughing:
