After working as a carmen for around 3 years, I hate to admit to only getting rides across the yard, a few times. Since I was welding or repairing cars, my job wasn't to move them around. Although I did spend a bunch of time working to refurbish a switch engine like this one...

Me with the 1225 ("Christmas Train") about 20 years ago. Because of the condition of the tracks around Michigan, she uses every bit of suspension travel that she has. Hard on rod pins. Converted to oil BTW.90523174.jpg90523182.jpg

Both of the turn tables you guys show, don't appear to be operable. :cool:

Yep. Most surviving turntables and roundhouses are not functional anymore. There's hundreds of these things left all over the country. I have a list of about 1000 that I need to compile in a readable format. Probably a winter nighttime project. It's all in a google earth file format now and kinda hard to read.

BNSF, in Vancouver, WA, built a new turntable a couple of years ago.
