Are some of the Kioti precautions BS?

As a new owner of a Kioti (and my first tractor), I'm reading the owner's manual cover to cover (it's raining here). Kioti tells me to never get off the tractor while it is running. But then how am I supposed to get into the BH seat? Also, if I'm letting it warm up for the suggested 20+ minutes in sub-zero temps, do I really need to stay on the tractor? Some precautions, like not starting the tractor while standing next to it, make much more sense...imho. What do you do?

Ditto. Just use commons sense. Lower the implements/loader set the brake.. use common sense.

ya, its to protect their rears. The only time i personally would worry about leaving the seat with engine running is if there are kids around. they will mess up anything.

but you have to gain experience around the machine for your own comfort level.

On my Bobcat, if you set the parking brake you can get off the seat with the engine running. The one warning I do take more seriously is getting off the tractor with the PTO engaged. I have been known to do it ... but only if I'm not going anywhere near the back of the tractor and only if no one else is anywhere near. The PTO spinning can be dangerous.

That is one of the electrical differences between the Kioti and the Bobcat.. On the Kioti there is no seat switch. Only the range selector Neutral switch. The brake does not have to be set on the Kioti, the engine can be running, and you can get off. No Nanny switches, you are free to let it roll off, or smash yourself if you please. It is all up to you.

I don't observe all safety rules religiously but I do always wear my seat belt and always disengage the PTO when dismounting unless using the wood chipper. I cannot think of another reason why one would leave the PTO on (well maybe running a post hole digger??)

I have been known to be lazy and leave the PTO running when I am mowing if I run across something in front of me that I have to get off the tractor and move out of the way (e.g., branches). That is what I was referring too in my situation.

Got it. I almost always have my grapple mounted when mowing and as I am lazy, I use it to move anything I don't want to mow over.

woo, i usually remove the loader all-together when field mowing. the racket of it bouncing up and down drives me nuts. With and without the cab i have never left a mower engaged and left the seat. i really never leave a pto item running without me in the seat..cant think of a one.

However i do leave the tractor running and leave the seat all the time. I have no kids that will mess with it.

i have been known to get out of the cab and install a 3 point implement also with engine running as i can creep the tractor forward and back with the hst petal to align implement, and the 3 point hitch has a control handle out back....so the engine has to be running. I DO shut it off when i install or remove the pto shaft.....never trust those things.

Lazy, aren't we all to a certain extent, I like to call it efficient. In the winter, I open one shed door, go to the left side of the CK without getting on, turn the key on, depress the clutch pedal and lock it, wait til the glow plow goes out, start the tractor, let the clutch out, go open the second door, shovel the snow away from the front of the doors, putt around and check out the plow and a quick look over, then jump on and away I go. Never set the brake unless its on a hill and will roll. Mine has no seat, PTO or range switches, just the clutch switch and it is an 07 CK30HST. Temps have been as low as 0 Fahrenheit, never have any issues other than sluggish operation until the loader cylinders get flushed with warmer oil from the tranny.

Over time every single safety feature on all my equipment with the exception of the seat belts has given me a problem in one way or an other and I have found a way to disable them or remove them entirely.

Lets just say the safety police would have a field day with me. I try not to do anything unsafe but I don't go overboard either. Some safety devices have a purpose but a lot of them [seat kill switch for example] get disabled. Use your head and you will be fine. CJ
